They actually used it, I'm so excited!!!!!

OK - about what, exactly?

Well, the mileage tracking website Fuelly - Track and Compare your MPG allows members to submit their own "gas saving tips" that get randomly displayed or can be viewed in an archive. So, I wrote a funny one up on a lark and they not only accepted it, but it got a 90% approval rating. Funny thing is, it's this:

Reduce braking to save gas

You will get better mileage by using the brakes as little as possible, maintaining speed and momentum wherever you can. You don't even need brakes at all, if the horn works!

Your premise looks sound to me.

Good job, Sir! I don't care how fast I'm going when I know I have stop anyway. I even try to time my arrival at a light or stop to coincide with when I can next apply throttle. No extra points for "getting early to the point of a stop" and having to accelerate from zero.

OTOH, I never let my tank get below half full, and usually top off at 3/5th's to full. Some of this is no doubt a military habit born of three years in tanks where you NEVER miss a chance to top off (running out of fuel when you had a chance to top off is actually a court martial offense in combat operations).

I use mid-level gas for everyday in the Pathy...the Challenger gets only the best.

"Instant read" on mileage is just a buzzkill in driving, so I don't use it. Screw it, if you can't afford to fill it, buy something else.

Hypermiling is stupid in modern cars, which don't steer when the ignition is off. What worked in 1967 is not so cool in cars with steering wheel ignition locks.

"Find the sweet spot of throttle pressure". Believe me, I have and it's always 500-1000 rpms higher than what eco-nannies would approve of. Sometimes more. A LOT more. Twisted Evil

I do the same, even though it pisses off the guy behind me who's in a hurry to get to that red light before anybody else but that's his problem.

I average about 15.5 miles per gallon in my truck and have accepted that it is, what it is. Check my tire pressure weekly and try to keep a light foot on that gas pedal. Laughing

Awesome! Having sustained many a middle-finger gesture from squadmates, ones emanating from the freeway I can bear with indifference. Wink
