The Adventure
Winter is fast approaching and soon the snow’s going to fly and the temperature’s going to nosedive. There are a number of government run installations that operate SnowCats in the winter that need to have routine maintenance performed on their machines, including battery changes, oil and filter replacement, and tune-ups. The regional head SnowCat mechanic has just performed a complete overhaul at the ranger station at Alsek River and we’re to transport him to Situk Ranger Station just northeast of Yakutat, the Northern British Columbia High Altitude Geomagnetic Observatory (wow, is that a mouthful!) and the Bar Lake Ranger Station before returning him, his tools and the old batteries and parts to Alsek River. The weather’s kind of sloppy down near sea level, but it’s supposed to be clear at the High Altitude Observatory. [For the purposes of this adventure, we’ll assume that this mechanic is the world’s fastest – he’s only gonna take 5 minutes or so to unload parts and tools, do the work, and reload. I know this lacks realism, but I don’t think you want to wait two hours at each stop ;-)!].

Hope to see you there,
-Bob-
