Post subject: Books by William Green

I'm hoping folks here may know something about these.

William Green is a farly prolific aviation author. Back in the early 1960s he authored a series of small (5" by 5.5") books about World War II aircraft. I have seen 4 volumes on fighters, 1 on float planes, 1 on flying boats and 4 on Bombers and Recce aircraft. All the books follow the same format and cover aircraft of all nations. In the pre Internet days they were the most complete source of WWII aircraft I knew of. Prototypes and low production aircraft were included with performance, production and dimensional data.

The funny thing is that the Bomber volumes end with Germany. I suspect there were supposed to be more volumes ( I would suspect at least 4 more volumes and probably more. After all with the 4 fighter volumes Germany completed in Vol 1!)

Does anyone else remember these books? Were there any volumes beyond the 10? Does anyone know why the series was not finished? The publication dates I have are from 1960-68. I've seen them published by both Doubleday and MacDonald

Hi Bob

just happened upon this forum. I have all ten volumes. there was an eleventh announced but never published and the series just stopped, no idea why. This was an excellent series of books (just wish the format had been larger) price was very reasonable but even back then (pre Ebay and Amazon) you really had to work hard to get all ten volumes (finally completed my set on a trip to Texas in the late seventies). They also came with both black and white or colored dustjackets depending on the run HTH
