Civilian XM-808 "Twister" as a private car...
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

...have to wonder if this inspired the military concept in some way, which it predates by a decade.

"Sir Vival"

Pavesi's tractors used the same formula already during WWI:
vieilles-soupapes.graf...en-italien

Similar., Massimo, but just another articulated vehicle (there had been others, typically buses/trucks trying to mimic train technology for elongated vehicles, like hook and ladder fire trucks). What's different about "Twister" and the "Sir Vival" was putting the engine/main drivetrain forward while putting the crew/passengers in a rear cab for protection. The Pavesi tractor is designed and well-adapted for extreme terrain, pretty much like modern "extreme" off road vehicles with an abundance of suspension travel, but keeps the operator up front.

I see now, I failed to notice the engine's position

Looks like something Gerry Anderson designed for "Thunderbirds"!

Kind of! Laughing I also have to wonder about handling characteristics at speed on paved roads. Considering that performance vehicles put a premium on chassis rigidity, this design ignores it completely. I'd guess "jackknifing" would quickly become an issue. Thinking "out of the box" can sometimes get you put into one before your time.
