LF Hägglunds Moelv MB59 trailer
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Gents, fellow CIA members,

I am looking for further info about the (Alvis/BAe Systems) Hägglunds Moelv MB59 trailer for the Bv 206, especially details of the suspension and the ski mount. Google has not been really helpful and the Tankograd volume on the Bv 206, while an excellent resource on the Bv 206 and its variants, does not help either.

Thanks in advance

I googled as well but on "BV206 släp" which yielded this result:

M5041-192211 - BVKÄRRA 1922A MT
Moelvens Mekaniska Industri AS MB59A

Max cargo: 1100 Kg,
Service weight: 900 Kg
Total weight: 2 metric tons
Length: 420cm
Wide: 184cm
Height: 189cm

Cargo compartment measurements:
Length: 238cm
Wide: 167cm
Height: 110cm

Max speed is determined by the pulling vehicle's capability and speed limits:

BV206: 55km/h
BV208: 40 km/h
RG32M: 80 km/h

2 trailer couplings are included for both wheeled and tracked pulling. The trailer is fully amphibious to max cargo. Skis can be lowered and the trailer will still be drivable on a road.

That's what I've got on such short notice. We used to have our APU set up on a rubber mat on the trailer with an inlet hose for air and outlet hose for exhaust. When the top cover was closed you could hardly hear the it and the heat from the APU engine would dry any wet gear we had on the trailer. But as a non-regulation set up we were "forbidden" to continue the practice ... we said "Yes Sir" and continued anyway.

Thanks Rikard,

that is pretty much what I already had- I am not above multilingual googling, if need be by massive cut and paste. Wink

You did not take pictures of the suspension or the ski setup by any chance? That is what I am interested in and letters to the manufacturer have remained unanswered. Crying or Very sad

No, no pictures of suspension or ski setup; a lot of "cool" posing with rifles and MGs though if there's an interest in such pictorials (I guess not haha).

I once killed a BV206 that simulated a tank, it had "STRIDSVAGN" stenciled on the sides and trailer (strangely enough, on the trailer?). We had no AT weapons so I "simulated" one, I wrote "P-SKOTT" on the side of my AK4 and fired away. I actually got the "kill" approved, the combat umpires had a good laugh, and a slap on the back for "good initiative"

I digress - no pictures of the suspension and skis. I can ask around though?

Hey,

I always like to see that kind of photos, I did not nearly shoot enough of those when I was in.

Laughing That is a keeper and beats having to clap your hands to simulate shots because the blanks did not show up on time. Sad

I would be most grateful if you could- the installation that has them around here kept them under wraps at their last open day and getting in at other times is difficult since they are part of our new prodigy airmobile setup.
