Hammer mentioned that we should list our specs and grab programs that we use .

Here's mine:

CPU: AMD 3800+X2 (overclocked to 2.4ghz)
GPU: 2 Geforce 7600gt's(overclocked)
RAM: 2048 ddr 400 (also overclocked)
HD: 250g SATA
PSU: CoolerMaster SLI 600W

And a"FREAKIN HUGE" copper pipe cpu fan from thermaltake.

I use grab capture screen as my grabbing tool.

A modest rig by todays standards but i got her tweaked pretty good and it runs most of my games at full settings.

Me'n that "other guy" have been known to use two systems...a now vintage 2003 Gateway thingy with whatever was mid-high level for the era and a currently smokin' hot Gateway gamin' mama I spec'ed and acquired more recently. I'm too lazy to dig up the specs, but neither affects the screenshots too much, just the framerates, since I'm an FS9/Golden Wings kinda' guy. On the new system, I can slam all the effects to the max. I don't use any of the environmental enhancements such as Fled's excellent mods, not because they aren't excellent, but they have some artifact effects on some of my own scenery creation objects so I go stock in that regard. I do use mesh in some areas where I "fly" a lot.

On my old system, I use(d) Microsoft Photo Editor and on the new one, thanks to Stoopy's advice, I use Irfanview, but that's mainly because for some reason, Com-Central has recently not been permitting the upload of PNG files like it used to so I had to switch to high res jpg files.

I, err...we, just use Control-PrntScn for screen captures, then save to Microsoft Paint and edit from there. High tech, que no?

Trotting along the paths of the ever expanding world of intricate systems; stumbling and panting for not keeping the needed pace of revitalisation or updating the innards - I shuffle ( mostly) forward and use a P4 CPU at 1.8 Ghz, aided by a GeForce FX 5950 Ultra and supported with some 200 Gb of ( still) working hard-memory... My avatar says: time flies... and that's what it does when I sit back and p a t i e n t l y wait for the right image to appear. After some time ( if satisfied) I push the printscreenbutton and store the result via MS Paint into the proper CC-file before admitting it to be used in the CC-Show !
Actually, I have reached the stage where a new rig is urgently needed and I found something like the Acer Aspire M5640-PG3, but it only improves the fun of flying - the screenies will be the same. Smile

Post subject: Re: System specs

My system specs have probably been blabbed about by me enough in the hardware forum since I built the new rig but the pertinent details for this thread are:

• Intel Core2Duo E6750 Processor, 2.66Ghz non-overclocked
• ATI Sapphire HD3870 512MB vid card
• 2GB Crucial Ballistix PC2 DDR2 800 RAM
• Windows XP SP2
• Authentic Pratt & Whitney coffee mug
Running 1600x1200 res x 32 bits (like Fled) on a Viewsonic CRT 19" monitor

FSX is middle-to-3/4 sliders, some full.
FS9 is all available sliders pegged to the right and pretty much all option boxes checkmarked,
Like Ascout I have a seperate FS9 installation with the freeware Golden Wings 3 conversion package applied and absolutely love it for scenic and rural FS9-style flying.
I applied the freeware "VOZ" pakage to my FS9 package, and also swap in the Com-Central Environment package texture package unless I'm going to do something like PROPS racing, and that's been awhile sadly...

I'm taking my screenshots with a grabber called "SnapShooter" which I now prefer over MGrab, and it has some nice features. Then if I have to crop it, I use Irfanview. I am careful to never resize the picture unless I absolutely have to, becuase the best utilities (even IrfanView) will drop some quality when the resize takes place. For 800x600 screenshots for the forums, I just zoom out in the sim until it looks like I can get the subject matter all in an 800x600 rectangle, take the screenshot, pull it into IrfanView, draw the 800x600 crop rectangle around the subject matter, and then crop, save & upload.

It's all about Native Resolution, man.....speaking of which....

For IL2-1946, different story and maybe worth sharing since I had to piece the below information together from various websites:

First, not screenie related but to make it easier to spot the little fly-speck bogies from a distance on the full-real servers, I set iL2 to run in my monitor's native resolution by altering these entries in the il2config file:

width=1280 <-- spec for my monitor says 1280 x 1024 is the "native" res.
height=1024 <-- IL2 menu only offers a 1280x960 setting
SaveAspect=0 <-- important if you use a custom resolution setting like this

"DrawIfNotFocused" set to 1 allows you to run (and see) IL2 in a background window if you have to swap to any tasks like Teamspeak or whatever.

I also set IL2 to use OpenGL mode (not DirectX) since I understand it's optimized for OpenGL standards and does in fact achieve a much higher frame rate (70-80 FPS in online flight typically). Then, in the Render_OpenGL section of the il2 config file, I have the following settings to allow for more eye candy and it looks GREAT:

For some reason my spanking-new high end ATI card won't support the water=2 or water=3 settings (IL2 resets this value whenever I try) which I'm told look even better, but I'm not sweating it. IL2 probably supports NVidia better considering us ATI folks are renegades these days.

The VideoSetupId= number refers to the type of graphic card used and the value comes from this list (for instance, NVidia users would not want to use the value of 8, but would more likely use 3, 4, 5 or 6 depending on generation of card):

0 - Safe Settings
1 - Default Settings
2 - Maximum Settings
3 - NVidia GeForce 6800/6600/FX/4/3
4 - NVidia GeForce 5200..5900 - 1.x Shaders
5 - NVidia GeForce 4MX
6 - NVidia GeForce 2 GTS/MX/256
7 - NVidia Riva TNT2
8 - ATI Radeon X800/9800/9700/9600/9500
9 - ATI Radeon 8500/9000
10 - ATI Radeon
11 - Intel 915/925 (GMA900)
12 - Kyro II
13 - Matrox G400
14 - 3dfx Voodoo 3
15 - 3dfx Voodoo 5
16 - S3 Savage 4
17 - Custom

FYI: If anyone is interested I have two Nvidia 7900GS pci-e cards that I don't use anymore. I was going to sell them to a friend of mine but he decided not to upgrade. I ran one of them in my system for less than a year, the other is only 4 months old. Both still work perfectly. I be willing to part with them if someone wants to make me an offer. I was going to put them on e-bay but figured maybe someone here could use them.
