The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Post subject: General gallery Photos

Hi Members. I've started posting more photos in the General photo gallery from my collection. These are slowly being loaded into the archives here for historical and/or research purposes. Some are my personal photos, some are from Aberdeen Proving Ground Ordnance Museum, and there are other resources I used many years ago (US Army War College, Carlisle, PA, etc.). If you find any which you intend to publish and have questions of origin, I'll help out with what I know. Some are clearly marked US Army, Ordnance Corps. etc others not. I did post a few M103 hull photos from the M88 ARV Range at Aberdeen. These were ex-USMC and there were many there years ago. The M6 Heavy Tank photos were from Carlisle and from Jarrett Collection, Colby Collection.
The former Chrysler Auto Plant (and Tank Plant) in Newark Delaware is near complete in the demolishion of all buildings. Take care, Rick Eshleman

Hi Rick,

It's fine to post them there, but are you aware that you have your own gallery here at C-C? If you put them there and post a link, they will be more concisely organized for viewing by others (and not intermingled with a bunch of unrelated pics...your call, though).

You upload just as you are doing now, but to "my gallery', which is accessed via "My Account", just under your avatar on the left sidebar menu.

Doug, Thanks for the tip. I've already loaded a number into the General Pics, but will get some loaded in the personal gallery. Rick

If you need me to, I can move any pics you've posted in the General gallery to your personal Gallery. Drop me a PM with the information and we'll "get 'er done"...

I seen the submittal(s) and can approve them but if you make a personal gallery, I can approve and move them to your gallery at the same time... Wink

Shadow,
I tried to upload them into My Gallery and it's where they can go. Any assistance would be great. Thanks, Rick

Rick, you'll need to make a new album with your name on it. You can do that by accessing THIS LINK. Once there, look at the left hand menu and choose the "Create/order my albums" link. From the drop down menu, choose *My Gallery*. Next choose the Select Category.

Once you make a new album with your name, I'll post your submitted pics in it. Since you've uploaded some other pics prior to the General Account, I'll try to find and move as many as I can into your new account. Wink

Rick,

Sounds like you're getting it worked out. Our staff HMIC and admins are pretty helpful on stuff like this, especially Jerry (aka Shadow_Bshwackr).

Be advised that though you can establish a gallery here, you cannot hot-link the images to anywhere off-site. Within C-C, yes, but over at unspecifiedwebsite.com, unfortunately no. Bandwidth considerations. Of course, there are always free image hosting sites for that (Photobucket, Imageshack, Flickr, etc.) and I use one of those for my off-site linking.

Thanks for loading them! I did try to send another shot of the German Kettenrad from APG which a friend of mine recently forwarded. It was kicked out 3 times due to size. How do I compress it? I also have tried a few times in past to load photos from my digital camera (Canon Rebel XSi about 2 years old) and got booted for size. If there is a way to minimize the shots, I will do this. I shot a number of photos at Dover, DE Air Base the other day and was going to submit the shots of the 57mm Chinese anti aircraft gun into the albums for our artillery friends.
I used to have more computer savvy years ago, but have not kept up with technology, so bear with me! Take care, Rick

PS: Does anyone know where the Kettenrad ended up? I don't think it was at the Proving grounds when I used to visit there. So it would have been moved out or into storage by the early 1970's.

Hi Rick,

I suggest you FIRST save the image under a different filename (like mypictureXsmall.jpg or whatever), then use a photo editor, like Microsoft Photo Editor or the most excellent and FREE (Bushy's favorite price) Irfanview* (downloadable on the net) and resize the pic to 800x600 pixels or so (our software does that automatically when displaying) and save it...then reload. The system will not let you submit huge images..and you wouldn't want to anyway as the auto resizing can have unintended effects. Most images of mine than I post or submit to various websites are "bandwidth friendly" by being resized to something more manageable. Of course, you want to keep your original filename in the best resolution you have, just for your records and use.
