BMP at Fort Irwin...
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

This is one of two BMP's in the 11th ACR area at Ft Irwin. This one sits in front of the 11th ACR HQ's, while the other sits in front of the 2/11th Squadron HQs'. This hull number appeared to have 80021342 stamped into it. But on the same spot on the other side of the nose was stamped 80022378. I have no clue what these number mean, if anything. My sons and I didn't see any other markings clearly visible.

Hello Jeff,
Thanks!! These BMP-1s are even more difficult. They have two numbers. It is a Soviet built BMP, probably at the Kurgan machinery factory. The 8 digit numbers have a 4 digit productiondate and a 4 digit productionnumber. Unfortunately I don't know the ''system'' of BMP numbers.

Regards,
Lesley

Thanks for the awesome pics!

Besides the M113, the BMP 1 is my favorite IFV, thanks to the Military Channel's Top 10 IFV program for all the information on these lightly armored tracked vehicles!

Mr. Delsing,
Tell me where and what to look for and I'll see what I can do. I only have a few more weeks here at wonderful Ft Irwin so time is short for my research. I can get pictures of the other BMP once the weather lifts, (its raining as I write this).
