Post subject: By Request - Being your own Wingman with FS-Recorder

Allright folks, since the request was made, here's a lil' tutorial on adding a wingman to your flights with FS Recorder.....posted here because it can make for some very interesting screenshot opportunities!

It all begins with downloading and installing FS Recorder....since that's already been explained elsewhere, jump to this link and come back when you're done:

CLICK click click click --->> http://com-central.net/index.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=4170

Installation is pretty easy....you just pop it in your FS9 "Modules" folder and you're good to go....look for the FSRecorder menu that will show up in FS9 next time you launch it.

Now, there's a few thngs you might wanna change from default settings, at least I found them to be real handy. From the FSRecorder menu, select "Settings" and enable some AI elements like smoke, animation, engine, etc...also, in the "Playback" section on the left, set "Option 1" to 1 second - you'll see why later:

So%20now%20that%20you%20got%20it%20installed%20and%20set%20up,%20here's%20whatya%20do:%20%20Set%20up%20a%20flight%20of%20interest,%20get%20your%20plane%20where%20you%20want%20it%20and%20all%20that,%20and%20SAVE%20it%20so%20you%20can%20come%20back%20to%20exactly%20the%20same%20spot%20again%20and%20again.%20%20And%20of%20course%20you'll%20want%20a%20good-lookin%20plane%20at%20a%20nice%20interesting%20location....hmmm,%20well,%20for%20this%20example,%20we'll%20go%20with%20Long%20Island%20Classic's%20Christen%20Eagle%20at%20the%20KORS%20pigsty: Okay,%20now%20what%20ya%20do%20after%20saving%20this%20flight%20right%20there,%20is%20go%20to%20the%20FS%20Recorder%20menu%20and%20hit%20\"Record\": You'll%20get%20a%20pop-up%20asking%20for%20recorder%20resolution%20-%20I%20go%20with%201/8%20second%20resolution%20for%20better%20fidelity,%20and%20the%20files%20are%20pretty%20small%20anyways%20so%20it%20doesn't%20carry%20much%20cost%20in%20terms%20of%20processing%20or%20space: You'll%20get%20a%20\"Recording\"%20prompt%20down%20in%20the%20lower%20right%20corner,%20tellin'%20ya%20you're%20good%20to%20go! Oh yeah...last tip: When it's time to press the screenie button, remember that it's CTRL-SHIFT-L to turn off the aircraft labels so you don't have the AI Display Text messin' up your purty screenie.

That's about all it takes! Practice, experiment, and have a blast...can't wait to see what some of y'all come up with!

Y'all are welcome, and heeeeheeeheee I have a feelink we're gonna see some o'that stuff too, I hopes!!

But I feel like a dumb bass.... I left out one other VERY cool tip I've learned:

When you pause iut and are panning around your aircraft trying to get that perfect screenshot angle, also try pressing CTRL-W.

That puts the "focus" or pivot-point of the camera around the other aircraft, instead of yours. So the recorded airplane (which is usually in front becuase you're following) will be in the foreground of the shot.

Depends on the angle and type of shot you're going for, it sometimes helps. You can just press CTRL-W to swap back and forth to find a better shot either way.
