AFV/Tank displays in Bucharest, Romania?
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Photo-op...going on bid'ness....anybody know of any interesting displays of armor in Bucharest or immediate surroundings? I'll make an effort if there are....

Hmmmm.....well, it seems that there is: MUZEUL MILITAR NATIONAL

The tanks look to be outside, so I'll see if it's convenient for my hosts to swing by there.

Leslie has the following info for Romania (in his Europe document he sent to me), at least with regard to CFE category MBTs:

BUCHAREST

Shoot my native Russian speaker at work is out of town for a couple weeks. I would have had him call and tell them that a distinguished member of the CIA was coming and to make sure that everything went smoothly during his visit. WHo knowsit may have worked. Smile

From what I can tell, it's closer to Italian (sort of)...and surprizingly easy to read!

No I figured some folks at the Museum would be old Guard and when the commands came down from Moscow, the old allegiance to International Communism would kick in Smile

I thought I remember reading somewhere (probably the same places that I think I read all those tank facts I can no longer prperly atribute) that Romania is actially derived from Rome and that they do take their cultural and language back to the ancient Romans

Have a good trip and bring us lot's of interesting pictures
