Gun Truck "Uncle Meat"
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

A friend of mine just posted these pics of the gun truck "Uncle Meat". Ignore his commentary, he is a retired farmer who isn't quite up to snuff on weapons nomenclature Laughing Uncle Meat

Interesting. Very similar markings to "Eve of Destruction"

Uncle Meat was in our neck of the woods at the air show this summer.

Thanks Shawn, love before and after shots. Looks like the restoration is a pretty good likeness of the real thing!

I called Marc Sammis at the Ft. Eustis Transportation Museum about this today and subsequently emailed him the links as he asked for them, such was his interest. He may be getting in touch with this gentleman.

Tanklord, the link that Doug posted has 3 more shots of Uncle Meat in country, the one I posted makes for 4 in country shots. I wish I had overhead/interior shots for Uncle Meat from back in the day. That would only be to verify some details with the current Uncle Meat. We didnt have a chance to talk to the guy who was displaying the truck at the air show... I had some questions about his re-construction (his sources for his re-construction), would have liked to have just talked with him in general...
but he was very busy with the crowd and the kids.

That is a good site Doug, glad you posted it.

Again, gun trucks have made it back into current use. Unfortunate that these tend to get lost for lack of better wording. I believe it was Roy quite a few years back that addressed my questions in re:gun shields (ACAV kits) for tracks. Roy you told me you had them in Germany '70's but they were in storage.
It is a shame that these battle proven modifications never stay in "vogue"... only to become lessons to be re-learned in the next conflict...

There is a listing out there of every gun truck that was in country. I know that Squadron ran a list of gun trucks in there book named the same...

For reference, "The Hard Ride" Volumes I and II by Gun Truck Veteran James Lyles (NCOIC on Maverick) is the best all-round reference on Vietnam-era G/T's. I did participate a little in compiling the two books, but am not biased against the Squadron reference.

Vol I has color photos. Vol II has more photos, but unfortunately are in black & white to save money for the first printing. It was hoped that the book would sell enough copies to make an all-color second edition, but I am not sure that will come to pass.

There are shots of "Eve" in the Squadron book that you can use for "Uncle Meat" - as the trucks are similar. I built several miniatures of "Eve" for collectors that I could send you for reference as well, if you needed them.
