Post subject: All you network guys...

I have been having a lot of trouble connecting to the FS2004 server. I've tried everything I can think of to connect. I've put my computer on the DMZ, I've turned off the firewall, opened up ports, set in ips, etc etc. Nothing I've done has worked. Yet for some reason, today, I was able to view and join the server! However, I had unplugged my joystick wrong and it wasn't working, so I rebooted to get it working again. So now I've got my joystick, and I'm ready to go, right? Wrong. Now I can't see the server again. I'm starting to believe that it's not something on my end, but I have no real proof of that. Any ideas?

Open a dos window and ping the server to verify your connection then do a trace route.

Repeat the procedure when you can't connect to the server as well.

I tried pinging the server, came back with no reply. How do you do the trace route?

Make sure any Anti-virus programs are shut down too. I've seen them disrupt or not allow any pings to the puter. Keep shutting down programs and pinging the IP until you see a connection..:D

do a trace route by typing tracert (ip) and it will show you the hops your packages take to its destination.

Ahaha! Wonderful! I've been trying to figure out how to do that for ages! Thanks, I'll try it with the server.

Hi XcalibeR,

fyi I've the server running behind a router and firewall on the puter, make shure that when you are behind a router that you have opened the needed ports for the game.
UDP 23456
UDP 6073
UDP 2302 to 2400

Also if you have a firewall setup make shure that you grant fs9 permission to connect to and recieve data from other puters, if not all attempts will be futile, the FS server is running in stealth mode so only accessible for the people with the right port settings, IP number and password will get access and it seems to be working as all others are able to connect at any given time, with the exception when I have to do some maintenance on the puter.

Try go through this help document and you should have a good chance to get it going.

ns38th.com/help/open_sesame.htm

If you have an Upnp option in your router configuration, then try to use that option and forget about port forwarding or DMZ.

If you go for portforwarding or DMZ, then only use one of the methods, not both of them at the same time. Generally you should avoid the DMZ method for security reasons.

Cool

Thank you for the extra input there NS378th_Nil_7, much appreciated, I'll certainly save that link for future refference.

btw, problem for XcalibuR seems to be solved for the moment, he turned off his McCaffee virus scanner and was able to connect to the flight and make it all the way.

Rgr, seems that worked. Kinda weird, though, I think MadDog told me to do that before, and I did, and it didn't work Confused Oh well, if it works now, that's all that matters Mr. Green Thanks for the help everyon!
