Post subject: The Press at it's Finest......

So there I was, 'researching' something - I swear - and Google leads me to this newspaper archive page for the "Lockport Page" (or whatever it's caled) up in Niagra Falls. I start reading, looking for the item of interest, and find some of the articles are just too funny, as is the underlying and obviously hostile feeling between the "editor" of this little paper and the local authorities.....this is a hoot!

Check it out:
http://www.lockport-ny.com/today1.htm#Air

Oh yeah...the article I was looking for? Found it, wasn't too helpful but it's a good example of the little sassy pointed remarks throughout the other articles...makes for pretty funny reading IMO, someone's got their panties in a knot, sounds like!

Sheriff reported moving to reactivate his "Air Force."
Niagara County Sheriff Tom Beilein who last year, under public and then Legislative pressure, had to ground his fleet of helicopters, is now reported making moves to reactivate the fleet. Pressure to cut spending is off since the County Legislature passed a 33% hike in the county sales tax. Niagara County presently gets helicopter service from the State Police, Erie County Sheriff's Department and U. S. Coast Guard in the rare times it is needed. But one officer of the Sheriff's Department who needs to get "hours" in for his flying license has been putting the pressure on to get the choppers back in the sky so he can go flying again at Niagara County taxpayer expense. The latest indication: a very quiet request to a local insurance company for a quote on a $10-million insurance policy to cover all perils of flying the helicopters. That would include crashing the helicopters such as happened last year, reportedly by the pilot who is trying qualify for his license. (7/9/03) To be filed under Grapevine Telegraph

Those crazy Lockportians...I´m telling ya´!....if it´s not taking liberties with German Shepherds, it´s knocking up the residents at the psych ward.

I´m guessing there´s not a lot to do there on saturday nights.....

BTW, who was the guilty looking guy with the deep tan...and what´s that all about....?

That guy with the tan, I had trouble remembering all that but the three-sentence summary pretty much said it all. Seems he'd fit right in there, even bring a little more excitement to the place, y'think? Judging by the local press' attitude towards their peace officers, I think any potential future wrong-doing would be offset by tabloid bias much the same way as it was when he had that small to-do back on the Left Coast....
