You'll seen the movie series, but have you read the book by Stephen Ambrose? One of my first ever readings about a specific company in WWII, and I'll have to say the best. Awesome description of the Normandy jump, Market Garden, and also I believe the Battle of the Bulge. Read how the characters grow and mature. Like I said before, great book, one of my all time favorites.

Post subject: Re: Band of Brothers

An interesting compliment to Band of Brothers is Donald Burgett's four volumes of his experiences in the 506th PIR. Band of Brothers is about Easy Company which was in Second Battalion of teh 506th. Burgett was in 1st Battalion (A company if I remember correctly). He is one of the few people to make all the combat jumps that the 506th made as well as the nonjump battles such as Bastogne.

He wrote Currahee back in the mid sixties about his experiences in Normandy so it was out and available well before Ambrose thought of Band of Brothers. His other books: 'A Screaming Eagle in Holland' (about Market Garden), Seven Roads to Hell (about Bastogne) and 'Across the Rhine came later. Four volumns sounds like a lot but they are all reasonable size paperbacks (Curahee was part of the old Ballantine series that included books like Nine Lives by Deere and Wing Leader by Johhnie Johnson, both exellent memoirs from the WWII RAF)
