M1064A3 pics for Burik...
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

These pictures are from May 2002, at Camp Hovey, Korea. The unit was HHC, 1-9IN Mortar Platoon. This was a "Fog-Rain" exercise, simulating an actual alert, complete with 0230hr air-raid sirens and complete upload of BII and ammo. I was assigned to this platoon on paper only and I did take my quarterly mortar exams with them, otherwise I was attached to the 2nd Brigade S2 as the UPNCOIC from July01-July 02. I was never on OD green/camoflage M1064's though in my carrer. They were always desert tan, with 24th ID, 3rd ID, 4th ID, and 11th ACR. The one time I was "light" infantry, was with 1-503rd AirAssault, 2nd ID at Camp Casey, Korea all of 1997. We had 81mm mortars in HMMWV's that were slung-load under Blackhawks everywhere we went, (always to the DMZ area).
Mortar platoons used to be made up of two sections, each section having 3 gun tracks and 1 FDC,(Fire Direction Center in an M577). It was about 1999 that 3-66 Armor switched over to the single FDC with 2, two gun track
sections. Korea and the OPFOR at NTC were the only units that I know of that still maintained the old formation.

Cool. I like that second one. Tired old looking girl.
