That's Version one you have there, not my much-improved one. We gots to start that one over...probably after I get back, too. The one you show here has missing roof textures, Hill 180 too big, and no static aircraft or revetments or the cool radar mid-field. Definitely the "first effort" version. Mine is WAY better.

Hey, I like this idea.But just when it comes to helo's, it's like chopsticks...

I love the anti-submarine patrols idea, setup a Red October scenario or something like that.

I'll have to upload to our squad secret area when Iget back....my home email won't handle a file that size, and my work one won't allow zip files.

You guys can view it and tell me what, if any, textures might be missing. More likely, there will be unecessary textures that we can take out. This is my problem...I have "Phu Bai" stuff everywhere on my system...

Moser...there's a role for fixed wing in this plan...you don't have to fly a heli....

Dang tootin'. There's a reason why you're squad's bunked up here at Com-C with the Wild Sau boys, Moser.....we're well-versed in the art, about to a man now, just so you know we gotchyer back covered for all your rotary-wing ground support, troop movement, fire control and beer/chip/dip supply needs.

The plan would include somethign for all. Get that fixed-wing thing going and we'll see you from down low!

As an update:

Having looked over the area, maps, possible flight plans and options with the flight plan editing tool, here's what I propose & hope to have done by this weekend:

Keeping in spirit with the original idea, which is much like a Com-C Sunday flight but with military planes (and possibly much closer formation flight) used in in their respective theatre of operations, AND mixing in Ascout's great breifing and rendezvous suggestion, we can realistically end up with:

1) A primary flight of GzR's A1D Skyraiders (great plane, will provide download link) staging from the oroginal airbase proposed, and making a sweep taking them out over the general mission objectives per Ascout's briefing. This wil be the main "task force" and will accomodate the fixed-wing pilots and the primary goal as envisioned.

2) A secondary flight of rotary-winged aircraft, comprised of one or more helos (Dean Baunton's UH-1 U.S. Army Vietnam, Fr8ycat's OH-6A,
Blues Brothers CH-47 per pilots involved) which will have a SEPERATE flight plan from another base (if possible) that routes them in coordination with the first flight of A1D Skyraiders's.

Thus the first and second flights would only need to start at the same times and would cross paths at a coordinated point in the flight plans (Sandy's could hold in a pattern nearby if they get their early, or vice versa) so that the fixed-wing flight can provide close air support to the rotary-wings, which will make a short landing near the interception point. Afterwards, both flights continue on their flight plans to their destinations and hopefully, both flights terminate at similar times as well, and the mission is complete!

Note: The primary of fixed-wing Skyraiders will of course be able to perform their sweep independantly should there ne no helo pilots to comprise and perform the secondary flight. But if there are, that would be one heck of an added bonus.

And it shouldn't be difficult if the flight plan options bring the two flights together. When I get close I'll show a map of the plan.

If each flight just follows their flight plan it shoud be easy, and some minimum coordination on TS woudl keep it in synch. How cool would it be to see the helo flight come in from a different directoin and do their thing on the ground, and to be in the helo's seeing all that close air suport at the ready?

I think it sounds great and since you have put so much into this I'm overiding the vote (I can do that can't I?)..lol...I think this should be our maiden military flight...Are you going to posting the neccesary files soon or are they already there? Once thats set then we'll just pick a date & time....I've already picked up a couple huey's from simviation if we need them...or I'm sure hovercontrol has some as well..

Glad to hear it!

When I get the flight planning done, I'll put together a list of all extra's that could be needed, with download links. It'll be complete and easy so we get as many participants as possible.

The downloads would be 2 aircraft minimum (Sandy and Huey) , and definitely there are particular ones already identified with known sources. GZR's A1-D Skyraider is a GOURGEOUS plane with full VC and instrumentation, great flight model and is the kind of hunge ol' honkin' nasty warbird that you're lookin' for (and the rumble of that big rotary engine makes flights in it a pure pleasure by themselves) and the helo's also would be ones that Ascout already identified - the "best of breed" versions we know of for this era.

Additional scenery downlaods for the SEA mesh terrain are highly recommended, and I have links already for those. ThePhu Bai base and whatever else would wrap it up.

Might maybe even be able to pout all that together in an EZ-install. Yeah....

The SouthEast Asia mesh terrain definitely is worthwhile for this, and it should be a great flight. Here's a little something to whet your appetite....

Ahhh, well, no awards needed, I'm just a conduit here, Ascout's scenery, maps, and idears are the real goodies....I'm just taking care of the low-hanging fruit!

EZ-Install and upload will be no problemo either.

The only thing I AM having an issue with is the actual success with the flight plan file. I know how to edit flight plans both manually, and with FS9's editor. The Route Editor 2 utility, that looked like it would allow insertion of ANY waypoint by just giving the Lat/Long coordinates, isn't working as advertised though. To be more correct, it's working OK by itself, byt FS9 doesn't like the results and if it loads the plan, it throws away the waypoints that were added.

This is important becuase Khe Sanh, Camp Eagle, FSB Birmingham and A Shau Valley are of course not "locations" that FS9 knows about and it looked like this tool had a trick up it's sleeve, but it doesn't.

Seems from what I can tell, I'll need to add these to a BGL file that would need to be another part of the scenery download...well, at least there's a way to do it methinks, it's time to do a little readin'!

Heh! Tell you what, MS puts together a pretty good SDK!!

Khe Sanh added as an actual hard, navigable point now in the FS9 NAV database:





Next to come -
Camp Eagle (E16:24:30 , N107:37:30),
FSB Birmingham (E16:21:45 , N107:32:30),
Ruong Ruong valley (N16:08:00, E107:38:30)

...and the A Shau Valley LZ if Ascout can get me coordinates......we goin' to make this happen!


(This was cool to figure out how to do...now I can use Google Earth to find my house, put the coordinates in an XML file, and use the SDK to make a scenery BGL file so I can have a heliport in my backyard!!

what I've done is convert the civy lowskids to an Army Vers.



All the parts are interchangeable with the original Army vers. so all I have to do is add the minigun, gunner and Army textures to the civy model and we have an updated "Cayuse" that I think handles better and has a couple of extras over the original Army vers.

Should be ready for upload in a couple of days.

Anyone can upload a file to the download section with a limitation of 2mb. The setting isn't my doing, it's a preset in the ISP settings and more specifically the php.ini file. But, if the file is bigger than that, send it to me or give me a link to download it and I'll get it posted up for you... Wink

Great job everyone, it's good to see this build momentum!!
