Battle of Britain II: Wings of Victory
First, some background:
BoBII, Wings of Victory was released by www.shockwaveproductions in 10-05. This release was based on a prior release of the game in 2000 by Rowan Software, who in the past has released games such as Mig Alley, Flying Corps and Air Power: Battle of the Skies. Rowan Software is no longer around based on some net searches.
Shockwave, who has also released a Com Central favorite add-on for FS2004 "Wings of Power", has taken BoBII to a new level of user interactive single play role playing. Based on a historical re-creation of the Battle of Britain, this release lets the player take command of the game in the way of assigning scenarios to each campaign letting the outcome fall as it may. This should prove to provide countless hours of fun. And as an added bonus, it's TrackIR compatible!. There has been a patch released and this review is with the patch 2.02 installed. So before we say too much, let's get on with the review.
What comes in the Retail package?
The retail package comes with the Game CD, a 135 page Operations Manual, a Map and if you're lucky enough to find a copy before their gone, a DVD showing a documentary on the Battle of Britain. Shockwave will only release a certain amount of games with the DVD and according to the company, once those are gone, they won't ship any more versions with the DVD. If you're lucky enough to find a copy with a yellow sticker saying "Bonus DVD Documentary Video INSIDE!", it'll have the DVD inside. The DVD is quite good and worth looking for in my opinion.
Another item on the CD is the inclusion of a free aircraft for FS2004. If you have this game, this is a wonderful addition to your hangar. What is it you ask? It's the Wings of Power B17! While this aircraft deserves a review of it's own, it's beyond the scope of this review to do it now.
