Thun: old swiss tanks
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Time for something older. Let's start with Pz 39, aka LTL-H:

This looks like a kind of Marder, but it's a Nahkampfkanone I. This never went in production because the G-13 was acquired instead:

One of my all time favourites, it's Nahkampfkanone II Gustav. Unique prototype, same as above, development was halted after G-13 entered in service.

Finally the G-13, at least in Switzerland they don't try to disguise it as an Hetzer Laughing

Any more angles of the Nahkampfkanone II Gustav? I've always liked that AFV too.

Hey, I see some Panthers in the background!! Any photos of them ... please? Razz

I am resurrecting this old thread since I have new pictures. Did you ever wondered about Nahkampfkanone II's top layout? Now we can see it, thanks to some "pole" pictures:

Excellent pictures, Massimo, thanks for posting them.
As a sidenote, I wonder where the M48A1 in the background of the last photo came from. It has Wegmann SGDs, so Spain could be one possibility.

It's an ex-Bundeswehr tank, the Museum says it's an M48A2.
I am assembling a large selection of pictures from Thun Panzermuseum on Flickr, I'll post about it later on, I will cover that M48 too.

I don't see the raised engine deck nor the three support rollers per side of the M48A2. In other photos of the same vehicle, rounded front fenders can be seen, which makes it an A1. Besides, I think the Bundeswehr went from the M47 straight to the M48A2C.

The Nahkampfkanone II Gustav looks like a baby version of the UKs Tortoise!

We will go back to it once I will have the pictures online. I can only confirm it's an ex-Bundeswehr tank.

I have it online as an M48A1:

Unique ID 804: Thun M48A1

The Bundeswehr had 200 M48A1s as well as 1000+ M48A2s - I imagine the M48A1s were the first to be released from service and passed on to museums.

Edit: I have updated the entry.

Your site is one of the sources I used to confirm the subtype.

Good - I'm pleased it's useful! Of course, it relies heavily on photo's from Massimo and other members of the forum to illustrate it, so I think it's a good combination.

BTW, Massimo - great pictures! I'm a big fan of high level views.

Thanks all for proper identification of M48.
As I said, I am uploading a good amount of pictures on Flickr, starting with swiss tanks. I will open a dedicated thread once I'll have more vehicles covered, including the M48.
