M4 dozer and M4A3E8
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

I suppose the metal plates attached to the side of the E8 prototype are to simulate a full combat load.

Costas,
More than likely that's correct. Aberdeen regularly welded plates on prototypes to simulate the extra weight a fully loaded and/or uparmored vehicle would perform like. This even held true to the M1E1 Abrams, which had welded plates to simulate extra armor that the M1A1 Abrams would have. Rick

It was normal practice, especially when testing new engines, suspensions or transmissions.

The T7 dozer kit was adopted as the M2 dozer kit. Apparently there were quite a few M1 and M1A1 dozer kits left from WW2 so the M2 dozer was not widely produced.
