Post subject: FS-Recorder Tutorial, Part 3 - recording while playing back

OK! So in Parts one and two you listened to my yammering and all that happened is we flew a Cessna around and recorded it. Big deal! Well, here's where it starts gettin' interesting!

We're gonna play that recording back and fly in formation with it....and we're gonna record that flight too!

Here's whatchya do.......

Start off with the same saved flight you made for the first flight. But, move your plane over and back a little bit, to position it as the second plane in the flight. Here, I've moved the airplane back one length and over to the right about half a length.

Then, go to the "Recorder" menu and select "Play as Traffic" (NOT "Play", which is for something a bit different than what we're doing now).

Select%20the%20recording%20that%20you%20already%20saved.....and%20be%20ready%20to%20press%20the%20PAUSE%20key%20REAL%20FAST%20after%20hitting%20\"Open\"! And%20as%20SOON%20as%20you%20select%20it,%20PRESS%20THE%20PAUSE%20KEY!!!!!!%20%20Because%20you%20need%20to%20turn%20on%20\"Record\"%20before%20it%20goes%20any%20further,%20so%20you%20can%20have%20a%20second%20recording%20that%20starts%20out%20at%20exactly%20the%20same%20time%20as%20the%20first%20recording.%20%20So%20pausing%20the%20sim%20will%20pause%20the%20playback. Plus,%20you%20also%20may%20want%20to%20change%20the%20airplane%20(different%20color%20scheme%20or%20airplane%20altogether)%20and%20also%20save%20this%20flight%20setup%20as%20\"Flight%20#2\"%20so%20you%20can%20re-do%20it%20if%20you%20have%20to: Here,%20I'm%20going%20to%20choose%20the%20Green%20Cessna..... And%20save%20the%20flight%20as%20#2%20in%20the%20series...... Then,%20while%20you're%20still%20Paused,%20go%20back%20to%20the%20Recorder%20menu%20and%20select%20\"Record\"..... And%20you%20should%20be%20set!%20%20Oh%20wait,%20one%20more%20thing.....go%20back%20to%20your%20regular%20cockpit%20view,%20HUD%20mode%20(and%20the%20Axis%20Indicator%20should%20still%20be%20turned%20on)%20and%20ZOOM%20OUT%20as%20far%20as%20you%20can%20stand%20to....I%20go%20back%20to%2031%.%20%20 Zooming%20out%20that%20far%20is%20important%20because%20it%20allows%20the%20wingman%20to%20see%20the%20flight%20leader's%20plane%20more%20of%20the%20time%20when%20they're%20alongside%20or%20slightly%20above/below,%20and%20also%20it%20encourages%20you%20to%20GET%20CLOSER%20to%20the%20leader%20for%20some%20really%20nice%20tight%20formation%20flying!%20%20:D OK,%20NOW%20you're%20set%20(see%20the%20prompt%20in%20the%20lower-right%20corner%20of%20the%20screen%20below%20that%20says%20you're%20playing%20back%20and%20recording?). Unpause%20the%20flight,%20and%20then%20get%20ready%20for%20the%20leader%20to%20start%20rolling.%20%20In%20the%20first%20flight%20in%20this%20example,%20I%20flashed%20the%20NAV%20lights%20after%20sitting%20still%20for%2015%20seconds%20and%20then%20began%20slowly%20throttling%20up.%20%20Below,%20you%20can%20see%20how%20that%20helps%20as%20a%20visual%20cue%20in%20this%20stage..... After%20throttling%20up%20and%20following%20the%20leader%20through%20the%20takeoff%20roll%20and%20departure%20(at%20which%20point%20I%20was%20too%20busy%20to%20take%20a%20screenie),%20here%20we're%20formed%20up%20and%20fairly%20level.%20%20Now%20you'll%20see%20the%20usefulness%20of%20having%20the%20Axis%20Indicator%20turned%20on,%20because%20if%20you%20just%20aim%20it%20about%20a%20foot%20beyond%20the%20flight%20leader's%20wingtip,%20you've%20got%20a%20good%20reference%20point%20to%20use. If%20you%20find%20yourself%20having%20trouble%20staying%20at%20the%20same%20altitude%20as%20the%20leader,%20chances%20are%20you're%20just%20not%20trimmed%20the%20same.%20%20Trim%20is%20your%20friend%20here,%20use%20it. Also%20note%20that%20the%20other%20plane's%20tail%20is%20chopped%20off%20and%20you%20might%20think%20we're%20flying%20too%20close.%20%20If%20in%20doubt,%20PAUSE%20the%20flight%20(remember,%20switching%20views%20during%20recording%20can%20cause%20recording%20stutters)%20and%20go%20outside%20to%20check....%20 Nope,%20lookin'%20pretty%20good%20here! When%20the%20leader%20starts%20to%20turn,%20the%20real%20fun%20begins!%20%20If%20you're%20on%20the%20outside%20of%20the%20turn,%20you'll%20find%20that%20you'll%20need%20to%20throttle%20UP%20to%20stay%20in%20position,%20since%20you're%20taking%20a%20wider-radius%20turn%20and%20covering%20more%20ground.... Likewise,%20if%20you're%20on%20the%20inside%20of%20the%20turn,%20you'll%20need%20to%20throttle%20back%20some%20to%20keep%20from%20over-running%20the%20leader..... Other%20than%20that,%20nothing%20to%20it%20but%20to%20do%20it,%20and%20remember%20that%20practice%20makes%20perfect.....someday%20I%20hope%20to%20get%20there!%20%20:) A%20good%20formation%20landing%20and%20taxi%20back%20for%20a%20side-by-side%20parking%20job%20and%20shutdown%20makes%20a%20good%20way%20to%20wrap%20up%20a%20flight..... Then%20all%20ya's%20got%20to%20do%20is%20save%20it%20(under%20a%20new%20name,%20like%20#2%20in%20the%20series%20as%20below)%20and%20you've%20got%20a%20cool%20formation%20flight%20recording%20that%20you%20an%20play%20back%20again%20and%20again%20since%20FS-Recorder%20allows%20playback%20of%20MULTIPLE%20recordings....which%20is%20what%20we're%20gonna%20do%20in%20the%20nest%20step!

Next up: Playing back two recordings at once using the "Play" function.....and then, playing them back "As Traffic" and recording a THIRD flight in the formation!

I'm sorry Chuck. I got 59 screenshots in all becuase i wanted to use pictures and not make eyes glaze over, really I tried....but couldn't help but make some comments and tips I think are important.

I'll try harder to tone it down.
