This gun was employed in the early model Stug III's. I am curious as to how it was used. Did it lob shells like a howitzer, or did it use a direct fire mode with an extremely short range? Confused

As maximum elevation of the gun was 20 degrees, it would'nt really compare to a howitzer, but the max. range was about 6000 meters, so "extremely short range" doesn't really cut it either.

StuGs would mostly fire at targets that could be seen from the vehicle, but crews were trained in artillery techniques and StuGs could be employed as part of the overall artillery plan if need be, even though this seems to be done only on rare occasions.
