Great pics of 3-64AR Schweinfurt 1975
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Been going through these pictures,

Some are really good ones. This one shows a RN that belongs to one of the first 15 M60's made. To bad the last digit is missing. It does look like 9B3101

"Training Tank Only"

Another give away are the prototype fenders with stowage bracket on the back. I'd love to see the original prints. Also for all you former M60 Jocks, check out those packs, AVDS-1790-2's. Both fill and dipstick covers are up front instead of front and back

Since some of the other photos mention Aberdeen and his Germany ones are generally dated a year or so later I wonder if that could be the M60 that is at the Museum now?

An interesting question has popped up in my mind viewing these photos.

Would anyone have a clue if the 'Easy 8' Static Display is still at Conn Barracks?

Additionally, is there any reference source of museum vehicles and/or static display vehicles in Germany?

Just a thought
Don

I thought the same thing at first, but my records show the one at Aberdeen was SN 9B3102. But I can't remember where I got that info. When the school house quit using those "Training Tank Only" M60's many went to Guard Training facilities and were used there. Other became statics not far from there. Thurmont MD and NYC are where two ended up.

I have the M60 at APG as "9133102" - I guess that's a typo and I read 'B' as '13'? I think it's from notes I took when I visited the museum in the 1980s.

It's no. #92 here:

Hi Mark, all,

That gate is still there at Graf, but only used for exit traffic. The main gate was over the RR tracks on the other side of post through the warehouses, last time I was there (2005). I'm pretty sure I wouldn't recognize it now, since they put a BCT there!

Nice link - thanks for posting.

I considered the Seventh Army camouflage scheme one of the best looking paint schemes used by the US Army. Seems to have been inluenced by the colors used in WW2 by the Wehrmacht. MERDC was probably more effective and adaptable, but the M60A1 and M113 looked prety sharp in the Seventh Army scheme.

I noticed one of the M60A1s being loaded at the railhead was one of those that had a stowage box from an M47 attached to the turret stowage basket. I remember getting photos from Mike Ledford in Germany that showed a number of these in the division. At one time he told me how many there were but I don't have the letter anymore. I think it came to a couple dozen at least. Another M60A1 variant that is visually interesting.

Gary,

That mod using the M47 stowage bins were used else where too. Not only did crews from 3ID do this, but Tanks in 3AD and 1AD too. From what I was told 1-13 AR in 1st AD had the complete Battalion set up that way. No shortage of these bins since the hard target lot in Graf was full of M47's. I guess after time many got destroyed or damaged, since I haven't seen any on M60A3's. I guess the "Uniformity thing" also forced unit's to remove them.

I use to think the M47 bin on the bustel rack was mainly a 3AD thing, but from several books out and pics up on the web, it seems they were used by quite a few units. Here's a build I did off a pic of a H-24 H Co. 2-11ACR, circa `75.
