Post subject: August 29th Sunday flight

Defying the meaning of the word "tour", the present flight will see us making a trip around Wales, where "around" stands for bordering its shores without never really getting into its territory. And it will be interesting anyway, because there are a lot of curious features and landmarks to take note of.

Ah, by the way: I'm typing this message from the new 'puter.
It arrived on Thursday, and I'm still taking confidence with the new machine and the OS, but I already installed FSX and FSHost, so I hope everything will be ready for tomorrow.

Sorry, I'm bound to ask for help.
I hate to say this, but I'm having problems, because though I can join GameSpy, I cannot connect to a direct IP - maybe I just have the wrong one.
Same with problem with TS - Here I installed TeamSpeak3.

This damned router is driving me mad!
Shocked
Please, e-mail me!

Ciao Marco,

as for GameSpy, there is no need to connect directly to an IP just create a Gamespy account, I use my hotmail for that.

as for TeamSpeak we still use TS2 for Com-Central Wink

As for the router, wich one do you have ?

Hi Wolter,

even in the past, I didn't connect to TS through the applet on Com-Central (I always got an error, even now), but directly launching TS; I even tested the new release 3, and it worked fine - I mean, I could connect.

Now it doesn't work, possibly the IP and port I noted down changed, or, more probably, I wrote the wrong number... getting aged here.
Smile
Anyway, I'm going to install version 2 now, though I still believe I need conformation for IP and port - strange to say, I believe I still remember the pw.
Mr. Green

Once solved this one, the rest should be easier, as I can get instruction for GameSpy through live voice.
I can join GameSpy - I already have a profile of my own - but it often happens that I get kicked out, because they say that I "connected through another computer"
Neutral

And here it comes the problem with the router.
It's a Netgear DG834G, and supports up to 4 computers. I was forced to switch to this solution, as the old USB modem was not compatible with Win7, and at this point I thought I could get both the pc's (old and new) connected to the Internet.

To this effect, the router works great: I can keep both connected on the net contemporarily. But I fear there's something to tweak when it comes to games and apps that need to communicate with outside.

At first I checked into the firewall, and thought to add rules allowing FSX and TS to be let through. FsHost was already present in the list, but here is the weird thing: when I start it, I get a message that it cannot connet with the Master Server, maybe because port 80 is busy or my IP is incorrect.

Anyway, as a first step I'm going to install TS2, to see if it works.

Apart from all of this, FSX runs great - settings pushed to ultra high, frame rate fixed at 30, and it goes smooth like silk... ouch, no more excuses for crappy landings!
Mr. Green
Marco

P.S.: TS2 now installed and working fine, even from the CC applet, hehe!
Cool

Hi Marco,

Good to hear the TS2 is working, maybe we can have a short talk to get the rest sorted and a test with GameSpy for connecting to a multiplayer session

Looked at the Netgear site , depends if you are on a Annex B connection or not as to get the latest Firmware for the router/modem as ther are several versions of it, the in the router as usual you need to set up the programs that are allowed to communicate with external sources, hence opening the ports for those programs, looking wich ports are open or closed go to www.grc.com and look for Shields Up do the test and see what it comes up with

I'm rather busy now - home duties never end, gosh!
But I'll try to connect a quarter before 20:00, so that, if anything goes wrong, we have the time to address it without delaying the flight.
