Tommy,

When were you at Bliss and what squadron? I was in 'B' Troop 72-73 and 'I' Troop 76-79.

I lived there 77-79 and a couple of summers (80 & 81).

Lived near ADA Museum in housing. My father worked in DCD.

(Gotta find photos of Space Shuttle on 747, when it landed at airport. Even have photos of my friend holding heat tile that had fallen off shuttle, and landed in his front yard)

Regards
Don

I used to have the PROMOTIONAL 'DIVAD GUN' coloring book. My father brought it home (during that time).

It had that 'gunfighter' logo, as I recall. Before the days of the 'Sgt York' nomenclature.

Hi Mark
Best I can remember we were referred to as C company.
I was in the Survey Squadron. only 6 of us.
I was there thru 74-75.
Where were you 74-75?
Not much memory left of Bliss.
Fortunately
My Squad leader was the company distributor of (sweet leaf)
Griswold little short guy about 5'1" and the funniest person I have ever met.
With no war to fight, literally every day we would take the Gama goat out in the desert, blow smoke signals and practice our survey skills.
Now its coming back I believe I still owe that Whataburger money.
Not a very dedicated soldier, Rolling Eyes but please conceder, when I arrived at Bliss I was still only 17 years old.

Hi Don
I remember that gunfighter logo but cant picture it.
Tell you what.
I still have a few contacts that may have some memories packed away.
I'd really like to find a picture of one of the two prototypes used in the shoot off.
Affectionately named Miss Piggy.
And yes they painted a pig on her turret. Rolling Eyes

....Whataburger huh? I had always heard of the 'urban legend' of a Gamma-Goat being used at a burger joint drive thru,......any chance that was 'ya'll'...

I really have memories of:

Starlight bar (on Dyer St) shooting....
XM-1 (phase II) testing....
Gen of the Army ONB in the AO....
Shuttle 'diverted' episode...

Would love to see the 'Miss Piggy' photos...

Geeezzzz
These are incredible, Thanks Laughing TONS Laughing for sharing.
I worked 60 hr weeks for 5 years on Divad.
I am very proud of the system.
Although one could argue some of the details.
Ford Aeronutronic as a whole did a fantastic job.
Thanks Again
Tommy

Tommy,

Each of the 3 squadrons had a "How Battery". The reason I asked is my good friend Bob Bryant was in the survey section of 1st Squadron from 71-74. In 74&75 I was in Germany.

Whataburger, they gave the enlisted monthly credit cards to take advantage of our monthly payday.
That could have been us in the drive thru and I would never remember, we were out of control to say the least.
Starlight Barr... you have more brain cells left than I do???
Yep when I thought I was a pool hustler.

I do remember War Games with 101st.
And some how got selected to simulate setting off a land based nuke. I believe we blew our self up. Or wish we did.
Lived in a foxhole for 3 days and nights, winter time so dam cooooold.I beleived TOP sent me on this for blowing 2nd gear out on his jeep.

I would assume this would be hard to forget. As I remember it, the Gamma Goat got stuck in the drive thru lane!!

It was either Starlight or Sunshine, but bar room arguement on 'whose the best shot' ended with guy leaving, then walking in with rifle, shooting left to right, killing many (forgot casualty count). He was subdued by GI's in bar. Went to NM State Pen, and murdered in infamous riots. (actually 'blow torched' to death by inmates)

HA HA HA,....sounds justifable, I guess.

Anyway, I was only in late teens myself, but have always seemed to retain 'volumes' of useless trivia, from my past.

Sorry Mark
I actually don’t remember. I believe I have a copy of my orders I will look.
I don’t remember meeting a Bob Bryant, my section leader
Tim Griswold he was there my whole tour.
Maybe your friend may remember this.
In 74 a guy in my section was shot in the stomach at
Mc Donalds by a troop from another battery.
This was a big deal to me as John the guy shot was part of my squad and a friend. He lived but was later discharged.
I would believe the whole post would have heard about this but maybe not.

As of a few years ago there were several Sgt Yorks in a compound in the unamed Mojave desert Navy test facility...oh 'bout a 5 mile hike away from a mud pit full 'O Pigs Laughing

Don't know if they'er still there or not as I no longer have acsess to them parts of real estate.

I was just thinking to my self the other day that the Isrealies might not have such a Kyushta problem if the DIVAD system was deployed over there...I think I was watching a video on the mini-gun system being developed for the V-22 Osprey wingy-rotor-thingy. Not sure where I made the connection....must have been the cold/flu syrup! Laughing

Nice going, Rob...now that you've violated OPSEC and blown the location of JG300's secret test site, we're gonna' have to move again.

This is the sort of indiscretion that probably caused you to lose access to certain areas. Wink

I hear Blackrock is a nice place...plenty of chemical, biological and alcoholic testing goes on out there from time to time Laughing
