Thank again Brian,
Of course to nitpick, I'm pretty certain that LVT(A)5 has postwar modifications (to the basic hull-shape) that would make it out of place for Iwo Jima...

Re: the 4th Tank Battalion, is that at their HQ at 9955 Pomerado Road, San Diego, CA 92131?

Thanks.

Neil

You are correct, the front has been modified. Compare to the LVT-A5 as shown in the Amphib book.

Yes, that is the place. It's right across the freeway from MCAS Miramar though.

Few more pictures of the Sherman...

Speaking of MCAS Miramar, is the Mechanized Museum's M3 Scout Car still under restoration there?

No, it's in our shop, and we haven't had time to do anything more than the guys at Miramar were able to... there is a local (50 miles away) scout car enthusiast that we have been trying to get our to our place so he could take a look at it, but we haven't been able to do that yet. We figure that it would take us 5 times the time and effort to do the research etc necessary to complete the project than it would for someone who is already an expert in the subject, and the thing is already 80% there with only finishing touches needed. We have most of the parts and more can be acquired from local parts vehicles if necessary...

BTW, the Sherman at 4th Tank Battalion in San Diego is one of the ones that was formerly at Camp Pendleton.

These pics were taken by Dave Haugh, with permission for usage, and provided by Joe DeMarco.

The M4A3(105) Sherman formerly at Pendleton is believed to be at Twentynine Palms - although I have yet to see any pics of it there...

Ummm I think thats a POA-CWS 75-H1 - flamethrower in a recycled 75mm gun tube in 76mm turret and bracket over gunners sight.

Again bracket over gunsight so I suspect its a POA-CWS 105 using a recycled 105mm tube?

I think A25 and H52 are the same tank at different time periods?

Yeah, I suppose that it could be the same one. I find it odd that they changed all of the numbering and everything on it though.

Edit: I can see that they kept the M4A3E8 on the front. Too bad the photos are from different sides. Maybe one side is H52 and the other side is A25. Rolling Eyes

Hey it's this thread again! I took a couple more pictures of the tracked vehicles outside the Mechanized Museum and figured that they may be of use.

Yes, I know I need a sun shade for my camera. Evil or Very Mad

I'm still going to try and get pictures of everything else around the base, may take a few weeks 'cause I've been pretty busy.
