Interesting I put the coordinates into Google maps and although the resolution isn't as good it looks like the turret is facing down torwards the covered driveway of the building.

Gut feel says it is an M60A1/A3. The location is Ft McPherson GA

Hi,

The green tank is an M48A1. I took pics of it in January 2009. Let me see if I can turn one up, and I'll post it here.

Chuck,
Pics of it, or any of the McPherson tanks would be very welcome!

Hi,

Oh, you think I'll share the T-72 pics too? See how you are?

(Waiting for moderator approval...apparently they are worried about naked tank pictures being on the Intarwebz...)

Neil,

Sorry, didn't get that one. I was only there for a day, and the T72 and M48 were right outside the building I was in. I didn't even see the M1, or I would have taken pics.

Hi,

Here's the T-72M (the sign says it is an M...I have no idea if that is correct), recovered after the first Gulf War:

And here's the M48A1. No provenance for this one:

Neil, if you want to use them, feel free.

Not sure. It looks like a version with optical rangefinder on turret roof, which was designated just T-72.

In case of Polish T-72 tanks (19 or 20), bought from USSR before licence production of T-72M started, some of those vehicles were modernized. Orginal optical rangefinder was removed (but it`s shield visible on turret remained, only with right "eye" covered by small plate) and new sight with laser rangefinder was installed. It got a bit wider sight head shield than previous version.

"Your" T-72 got pretty narrow sight head, also never read about changing sights in Iraqi T-72. Then it would be just export T-72 (AFAIR in NATO terminology called T-72G), not T-72M.

Hello Przezdzieblo,
Based on the KMT mounts (4), the absence of the additional 16mm plate and the ribs (> 2) in front of the driver I identified this one as a T-72M early of which the last is not an official designation.

About the T-72G designation, in the NATO documents (the old WARPAC Orbats etc) I have never seen this designation. Maybe this is a non-warpac designation as there, IIRC, 3 models of T-72M (factory designation Object 172M E2, E3 and E4), so maybe a T-72G exist.

The 19 or 20 bought from the Soviet Union were AFAIK T-72A. (One in the Warsaw museum) I have this as an T-72 early based on the 4 ribs, no 16mm hull plate etc.

If you like I can send you the document on which I based all this, I'am interested in all info regarding the T-tanks (and serials...)

Regards,
Lesley

Here's another one

www.bing.com/maps/defa...-119.73985

I currently have the following listed for this location, but it appears that there are 6 AFVs.

M1 Abrams
M42 Duster
M60A1/A3

Thanks,

Neil
