I will be running my 8800GTS OC until I can decide between 460 or 480 vid card (I don’t think I can afford the 580 Fled). I know I will run only one card if I can help it (single monitor).

And waiting for recommendations for an audio card (cough cough...)

Personally I couldn't recommend a card, I'm way out of touch these days as to what's available.

Depends what you want the card to do, headphones, speakers, woofers, surround sound, bag on the head...(Monty Python Sketch) Smile

If your deaf in one ear, I wouldn't spend too much money. Smile

Anti-static wrist straps:-

Fit PSU.
Plug into mains socket.
DO NOT TURN ON!
Connect wrist-strap to metal case.
DO NOT FORGET TO WEAR WRIST-STRAP!
Robert is then your Mother's Brother.

Sound cards:-

I'm using a Creative X-Fi Xtreme Music.
It's so damn good I use it for music production and audio studio work.
Eventually I'll get a studio card.
But only because I can get more D/I sockets in them.
The sound out of their Xtreme range is acorn-bustingly good.
Don't spend too much.

Hint:-
Decide how much you want out of it.
I have a 7.1 card which is set up permanently for stereo because I still haven't heard good surround-sound from a pc (I do have sound-surround as part of my home-cinema).

Slow,

Just remembered something else you MUST check.
The thermal paste installation instructions on the the articsilver site were wrong when I built mine.
I had this problem with my i7, and only found out by pure luck before I began.

You have to make a thin line on the back of the chip and it has to go in a particular direction.
Don't smear it, just leave the pressure of the heatsink to spread it out as you fix it.

The direction they indicated was 90° out on their own site (http://www.arcticsilver.com/intel_application_method.html#) when I built mine.
The site's changed quite a lot since I used it but there was a separate correction notice in a different location.
I couldn't find it on the new site so, hopefully, they have listened to their favourite skwirrell and made corrections since then.
You must make sure you've got this covered as the compound will spread in an oval shape and will miss half of the cores if you apply it the wrong way.

Thx Shades, seems the directions now say to put a dime sized spot in the middle of the CPU and rotate the cooler +/- 10 degrees each direction then clamp it down and lite it up... sound right?

No mate, that's not for i7.
www.arcticsilver.com/i...ethod.html
Check out the first two entries on this link (neither of which will open for me... *sigh*); for normal and extreme versions.
Both say "vertical line" applications.
The mobile version requests a surface spread.
Doesn't need to be too much either, or it'll turn into a heat shield instead of aiding heat transfer.
