One day I will manage to watch Saumur's Carrousel and Bovington Tankfest. In the meantime I better get a good telephoto lens Smile

It depends on the situation, when vehicles are distant, a compact camera just doesn't work. Even my current 200 mm lens wouldn't be sufficient, you need at least 300 mm, 400 mm would be better (even considering the 1.6x factor on my Canon).

I considered getting a Canon 100-400, but it was designed in 1998 and I keep hoping Canon will ship an updated version. It would be handy for airshows too.

yes, but the vehicles are not very distant at the Carrousel.

Look at the photos I took in 2007 :

(of course these are the better ones I was able to take.)

Looking at these and the ones shot by other people during Tankfest, looks like a 70-300 could be fine.

It didn't run yesterday and will probably not run today. I don't know why, if it is due to a mechanical problem or another reason.

The FCM-36, which was restored to running condition in 2009, had a mechanical problem and was not able to run yesterday.

I was able to take some photos of the two AMX-30 AUF-1s that the museum received this year, as well as the Jordanian Challenger which the museum got for a Panther Ausf. A.

I will post them later today.

the VBCI (sincerely, I thought it was a vehicle as small as the VAB, but it's really big indeed):
