With two kids in college and a new workshop under construction I was feeling the pinch so for the last year it has been all work with me spending very little time at home.Well thats finally over and I am going to be hanging close to the house for the holidays. Without hockey or college football to watch I should have lots of time to fly COD,course I realize that I will be cannon fodder for the most part .I don't have a headset with a mic right now but I might get off my arse and get one.If anybody else is planning on playing and wants a wing man leave a message here and I will get back to you.

Welcome back and happy holidays to you, Dan!

I'll have to see if I can recall the key assignments to my Cliffs Of Dover install, as I've been flying the snot out of Rise Of Flight....it would be good to get in the air with you again!

I have the ROF demo and have been flying a bit the last few days, the controls are really touchy, like really touchy Shocked .Is the demo good enough to fly online with or would that be considered bad form?

There are LOTS of guys that fly the demo online, including myself when I started out. Not bad form at all and no problem, unless you run into a map that doesn't use the default demo planes (Alby and Spad). Check the NewWings Basic Training server, good place to get started. We'll be having a group formation flight on Wednesday night at 8:00 PM EST and although we fly Fokker Dr.I's for the formation work we are practicing, it's common to have some new guys along in Albatross D.V's. We all switched to that plane halfway through the evening so a new flyer would feel at home...

You can adjust the control curves in the "Responses" tab under the "Options" menu, either form the main screen or in flight when you press ESC. Downside is, like any of these newfangled current-gen flight sims, there's only a zillion keys to set up and remember. But I find the simplicity and purity of the flight experience very enjoyable, and the combat aspects are great as well.

Nice pic Stoopy and thanks for the advice,I got the responses smoothed out and it helped a lot I was able to put some nice long burst into the little Fokkers and am looking forward to being able to hold my own in a furball which has always been my favorite type of play. Are you using the chat or comms?Well I'll try and get some practice in the next few days and will keep you posted and no doubt ask some more questions as I stumble through.

Cool!

Yep I've been using chat when I fly with the New Wings folks, especially for the formation practice. They use TeamSpeak 3, and have channels set up for the 3 servers they host - here's their website that shows the address:

They also have a healthy collection of short training videos...enjoy!

I'll add one more thing I forgot to mention.....

Not only is it *not* bad form, it's common for folks who only have the demo to join MP server games and hitch a ride in the multi-seat aircraft as gunners. The program will let you do that, you can see (and shoot at) other aircraft available in the full version, as well as occupy the observation/gunner seat in the 2-seaters and 3-seat bombers.

I have some 20MM and dual-Parabellum weapon upgrades for the Halberstadt 2-seater and Gotha heavy bomber gun positions. You & I could pair up in the same plane and pull off one hell of an airfield raid. Twisted Evil Twisted Evil

20mm and duel parabellums yes lets do that!!Just leave a message with the when and I will get back to you. Um I don't seem to have a throttle and can't find a way to fix it,in quick missions my rpms stay around 1850 rpm's when I try to fly online my plane just slowly sinks to the ground.Anyway I'm looking forward to being your backseat gunner!

Ok I got my throttle fixed and am going to fly again after 8:00 My pilots name seems to be Tom Dooly and I might look for an online furball to join,I'll check here first in case you need a back seat gunner

There is a group formation flight practice session at 8:00 PM EST (11 minutes form the time of this post) on the New Wings Basic Training server. Lots of friendly folks there to get started and flying with if you like.

I'm in the process of making chili for a pot luck luncheon at work tomorrow but am going to get on and fly some with them. Will be on teamspeak.

I have early meetings tomorrow AM but tomorrow night and this weekend we can definitely get together and raise holy terror in a dual-seater!

Well, I'm bummed. Twice I've downloaded the free version (taking 2-3 hours to do so) and both times when trying to unzip or extract the zipped file, I get a window popup that advises that "the downloaded file is invalid or corrupted".

Crapshitdammit!

Hate to say it but I suspect it's really seeing a resource issue like maybe not enough drive space to install or ram to run in. I had trouble as well until I eventually upgraded. You might try deleting and downloading the installer again but save it to a different place on your drive so it doesn't cache the original file (meaning it sees stuff already there and won't really overwrite it).

Dan - I'm wiped after along day on 4 hours of sleep. No play for me tonite. Tell me what a good time is to get together tomorrow night though and I'm there!

Well, I have 123 GB of HD space available, but only 3 gig of RAM, which is 25% short of what's recommended. I'm surprised though that I can't unzip the file, which is only just over 4 compressed. Thought I'd at least be able to get to contents, if not run it smoothly.

I feel so....rejected. Sad

ROF is nice. I've been flying the demo version, although haven't been at it for a while since working a lot of OT for the last month or so. Even then I only have about a dozen flights in and it does take some getting used to the controls.

Would be nice to get together with guys and do a flight.
