Conn and Ledward Barracks in Schweinfurt were identified for closing over two years ago - the official closing date is 15 September 2014; Americans have been located there since 1945. Although I normally write about the American experience at Daley Barracks, Bad Kissingen, about 18 miles distant from Schweinfurt - www.eaglehorse.org , I will be writing a few short articles related to Schweinfurt and am asking for some help. One article I am researching is the brief history of the M60A2 tanks assigned to Ledward Barracks - I believe two companies were converted to this tank before the plug was pulled on the project. Were any forum members there in the mid - late 1970s who would be willing to be interviewed? Short of that, are there any former A2 crewmembers who were stationed elsewhere in Germany who would like to have their recollections added to the article? Thanks if you can help. // Bob

Bob, you're probably aware (and probably a member) of the M60A2 page on FB. I'm sure you can find plenty of guys there who would pitch in. I only personally know one who did Germany time on the A2, and have no idea what barracks he was stationed in. I think he's a member of the FB page.

We have very few posters here that I'm aware of with A2 time (all of mine was in the test project, not in a line unit). A2 guys are like M103 tankers...sort of the unicorns of the U.S. tank world. Laughing

You'll need to request membership. They're sticky about members having been M60A2 crewmembers or mechanics, so if you need a member to post for your purposes, I can put you in touch with one or two. Or you could have one of your guys join and post. Or you could stretch the truth a tad. Rolling Eyes

I looked in and several names bubbled to the top: Dwight Pruitt, Don Moriarty (who is regularly seen here), Robert Vail and Stuart Lee Abrams. Message those guys at FB.
