GOOD NEWS! Firestorm is ok! IMS_Moller talked to him today! Sounds like he has his hands full opening his house up to friends and family. Wouldn't have expected anything less from Fire. He is like 25 miles North and 30 miles West of the city of New Orleans, power and phone service is back on. Just glad to hear he is ok!

It's been a long week for me also! I have a daughter and son that lived right in the path of Katrina. Son Lived in Gulfport, MS and daughter in Wiggins, MS which is 35 miles north of Gulfport. My son went to a friend's house in Wiggins and my daughter and her husband stayed put regaurdless of all's objections. My daughter's house came down around them except the kitchen and bedroom as Katrina came thru, the house my son was in miraculously only lost some singles. I finally got a phone call Tues afternoon that they were alright. BIG relief! They both said they wanted to stay and see to friends and family even tho there was a lot of devastation there. On Wed afternoon My daughter called me to come get them that they had enough of the sadness and uncomfortable conditions. I loaded my truck, called my brother in Jackson, MS to arrange for a U-Haul trailer and that was when he informed me that the trailer was no problem but that the local authorities were not letting anyone but emergency personel through. OH NO! How could they not let me thru to get my family that was calling for help!!! I research all info that i could find on the net and called the MS Highway Patrol and it was true due to all the looting going on! Well no phone calls were getting into MS only they could call out every now and then when they could get a line out. Well a 13 hour drive was not going to happen for me just to get turned away. I waited and waited for the call from them but it did not come till the next afternoon on Thursday. I had to tell them that I could not get to them. They said that they finally got some food and water after being in a line for hours and that they were going to stay and cleanup the best they could even tho they were disapointed in my not being able to get to them. I told them that my truck had been packed fo 2 days and ready to go as soon the roads opened. I got another call on Friday that they were definitly going to stay and everything was as good as it could be considering. I was relieved and extremely tired from all the worry and finally got some sleep that night. Saturday...another call. We can't take this anymore! They managed to get a tractor and dig thier truck out of the garage and was packing it to begin the trip up to Viriginia to get away. Finally 4 am Sunday morning thay pull into my driveway.
It's great to have a happy ending to my story but I still feel really sorry for all the poor souls that could not get out and that still need all our help. Please do what you can even if it is $1.00 ever bits helps!

It's always great to hear a happy ending Homy, even if some bad things did happen. It's always sad to start over, but it's only material things and those can be bought again... Wink

Tell your family all of us here at CC wish them well...:chug:

Thanks for the honest and decent people out there, as opposed to this kind. Law, order, and evac failed miserably because of a corrupt and incompetant state and local government, painfully illustrated by the following:

Glad to hear everyones ok Homey, i guessed reason you were not around was linked to katrina, sounds like they got out just in time any longer and they could be eating those damn british ration packs donated by uk, not the best food in the world, but needed for sure.

Like Homey said every bit helps, that place gonna take ages to get sorted...
Typical UK rations..
meals including Lancashire hot pot, lamb stew, chicken curry and desserts such as fruit dumplings with custard. enjoy!
