Recently sent an image of the muzzle of a 155mm howitzer. This one is in Cairns and was sourced from Finland. The Finns bought 160 or so captured Schneider Mle 1917 155mm howitzers from the Germans during WW2 and retained many of them after the war only finally retiring them in the 1980s. The original wooden wheels were replaced by twin pneumatic wheels in the 1960s. This particular howitzer has a barrel made by Bethlehem Steel in 1917 and has markings on the muzzle which appear to count around the rifling grooves - anyone a suggestion what the purpose of the muzzle markings was?

Regards,

Charlie
