Just saw the news... Bob Hoover passed this morning at the age of 94. What a true gentleman and great aviator. He'll be missed.

From other posts (Facebook friends)

"He'd been a P-51 pilot in the war, and there's a story going around today about a pilot of a vintage P-51 who just a few years back couldn't get the landing gear down.
They tried everything they could, and someone thought of Hoover.
They get him on the horn and Hoover, deep in his 80s, walks the guy through a procedure where he kicks the pedals to slew the tail around and sure enough ... down drops the gear. Right Stuff indeed ..."

David C Weber (commenting on original post);
"I was privledged to listen on radio @ Stead, Nevada to Bob as the Reno Air Race director up in his P-51 talk several pilots down safely some with oil covered canopies and a blown engine..
He was awe inspiring. Blue Skies Bob...."
