Anyone recommend any books or articles on Amtracs/early LVT?

"Across The Reef The Amphibious Tracked Vehicle at War" by Victor Croizat is a good read but mainly deals with operations as opposed to technical descriptions of the vehicles. He commanded an Amphibious Tractor Battalion in the island-hopping campaigns. There is some early LVT history since he also served in the initial amphibian tractor detachment organized in Florida in 1941.

The Osprey book isnt terrible, albeit brief as usual. Of course Hunnicutt's Stuart volume provides the full coverage I believe.

Jim

There is also a chapter in Friedmans 'Amphibious Ships and Craft - AnIllustrated Design History' in his Illustrated design history series. These are to American Naval vessels what Hunnicutt is to American tanks. Since it also talks about other Landing craft it puts LVTs into context. Probably not worth buying just for the coverage of LVTs The book as well as others in the series are very good on their subjects and sit next to my Hunnicutts
