Hey guys and gals,

I've been on the sidelines for awhile. Well I finally went and got the IL-2 1946 DVD. I had to buy a new DVD drive to do it, but I needed one anyway.
Problem I'm having is that, and i'm sure it's my computer that is the gremlin here but I wanted to see if anyone else ran across this same thing.

When trying to install the game i get all kinds of error codes.
1)"error 1335 the cabinet file "DATA1.CAB is corrupt etc.............

2)Internal error 2350

3)fatal error 1603 consult windows installer help (msi.chm) or MSDN for info.

From what research that I've done so far is that it's something with my computer, just what yet I do not know. I'm working on it as we speak and thought I'd get some help while i'm looking.

Thanks everyone

Mark, are you installing this on XP or above with Administrator permissions?

Error 1603 is a M$ Installer error and perhaps the installer can't write to the folders for some reason or part of the installer framework is missing. Have you installed all the updates from M$?

Another possibility is the CD/DVD rom. Have you tried installing the game to a different computer or tried using another ROM?

Let us know what you find... Smile

Heard of propblems similar to this when some people have attempted to install FSX from DVD. Nero Essentials was found to tbe culprit in a few cases, and something to try would be to perform a "clean boot" per Microsoft's instructions (details and a link are in a sticky in the FS2004 forum, I believe) or run soemthing like the excellent, freeware tool "SmartClose" (Google for it) to shut down non-essential tasks that claim resources and sometimes step on the toes of install progs.

2 cents...

Hey guys,

Yes this is on XP, I've really never messed with admin settings. I'm logged on as admin.
I have installed all the updates that have been thrown my way. I have not tried to install on another computer as there is not another available.
I have only the one DVD rom, I just bought it and installed it a day or two before the game install.

I tried the "clean boot" thing, same results

I'll keep plugging away at it, got to find it somehow.

Senyu,

Do you have installed .Net Framework 1.1, 2.0 and 3.0 ??

I have encountered the same problem with other installers and after I had installed these, the problem was gone Rolling Eyes

1.1 => www.microsoft.com/down...laylang=en

2.0 => www.microsoft.com/down...laylang=en

3.0 => www.microsoft.com/down...laylang=en

I think this wil solve your little annoyance

Hey everyone,

Well I tried to follow those links but get a timed out server.

I was wondering, I have a new unopened software that is M$ works suite 2003 and some of the info that i have been tracking down leads me to the Works page. Would those installers be incorporated into the Works software?

Just a thought

did you try and go to the main MS site and do a search for .Net Framework

They should come up then

I agree Fled.

Links working OK.

The error mentioned is a generic windows returned error, the problem IMHO will be your DVD drive, have a look to see if you can update the firmware for your drive.

Hey guys,

Ok, I have been racking my brain on this. I've installed all of the .net frameworks that I can find. I tried today to install the M$ works suite 2003 from the DVD drive. I got and error about the suite installer running into a problem. So I put it in my CD drive and it loaded up fine. So I'm really sure it's something to do with the software with the DVD. The only thing that came with the DVD was a Nero disc. I checked the driver info on device manager and it said it was from 2001, probably installed by XP.

I went to Liteon's site and could not find any drivers for the model that i have?

Any ideas?

It's been my experience that when that happens, the only thing you can do is use another drive to install it. Are you on a network and can you use the network drive on the other computer to install it?

Could you borrow one from someone?

OK got her figured out. I got tired of messing with it and not finding any updates for it, and went on to Lite-on's site and got in a chat session with a tech.
What it was, was an issue with the drivers. He had me do some moving around of drivers in device manager and go into the registry to fix something in there, cant remember what it was now but it works great. I got the game installed and man did it feel good to get back up. I've been out for the last few months due to nofundus interruptus!! Thanks for the help guys and i'll see everyone on HL soon.
