Any ideas as to what these boxes on top of these Hummers are? I think it is just a protective cover for the weapons station.

I don't think those are weapons station covers. I think they are some type of protection for the gunner. They do however look a bit tall.

Mock-ups for stateside training? I heard the real kits are still in short supply in theater, makes sense to use stand-ins in CONUS.

Definitely 'training set' vehicles for Preparation trainup.

Those are 'different' vismods, but non ballistic hummers, with 'fake' turrets,..... 'Training Set' vehicles.

(Seen many of those in my last years in unform....from New York to Mississippi, Kansas to Wisconsin, and back at 'Planet Knox')
