No - all those later - but for now I mean a picture of you for your contributor page!

(It would be neat if at least the top 20 contributors had a picture, so that means I'm looking for pics of you, Chuck Sherman, Joe Daneri and Neil B.).

I am conscious that donated photographs are key to the value of PreservedTanks.com. I have therefore long had it in mind that I should provide a means for contributors to see where and how their photographs are being used. In breaks from working on Bovington I have started to develop this idea. Eventually each contributor will have a web page from where he can view all his photographs (and also display his own photographs, not necessarily related to a particular tank in the database - e.g. from his time in military service).

The Contributor feature is finished - well, it's up and working anyway, no doubt I will tweak it over time! There is now a web page that lists all contributors to PreservedTanks.com (about 130 so far) - each contributor then has a web page with basic details and photographs. I've written up some more details on the main page itself:

PreservedTanks.com Contributors

Many contributors are on this forum so I'm keen to get some feedback on the feature from here before I make it public.

The main aims are to provide:

1. A single place that you can go to check what photographs of yours I have used, and how (and also check photo credit details, etc.).

2. A web page that can be used to give information on your background, interests, info and photo requests, etc. Also a place you can post pictures that are relevant to tanks but don't fit directly on the PTC site. For example, pictures of your service on tanks, if any, or as a civilian at big events (like Tankfest) are perfect.

Privacy is important, so I've written at the top of the Contributor page how that is to be handled. The whole thing is entirely voluntary, of course, I will edit each entry as requested from no information and photographs to as much as you want to provide.

Nice - but unfortunately I don't cover APCs on PreservedTanks.com, if I did I'd have no time to do anything else. Thanks anyway.

Here's a few items outside a motel on the A17, at Fleet Hargate, N 52 48.418, E 00 03.544

No discernable ID on this one.

Painted on front, "K/C 13-4-10R" & "2957" (Auction numbers?)
Heavily overpainted numberplate on rear, appears to be 04 FA 88

OK, not armour, but one of the most beautiful jets! Coded WT680

Not armour, either. Numberplate on front 00 TG 03

That is still under development, but in the meantime I'll post here some advance links so that you can just get an idea of how it might work. These are just examples to illustrate it:

Massimo Foti
Dontos
Tichenor
Chuck Sherman
Joe D

It's still very buggy so don't expect it to all work right (yet), but you should start to get the idea. Eventually I'd like to add better mapping, to show for example all locations visited by the contributor in a given year.

Pictures are now working (where available):

Preserved Tanks by Country

Tank Factories and Facilities by Country

All Tank-Related Locations by Country

I am pleased with how the content on PreservedTanks.com is developing (now at nearly 2000 tanks and 6000 photographs) but I am conscious it is difficult to search through. I am working on improving this as a background task, and the first results are now available. If anyone would like to do some beta testing, here's an advance look at the first searches that will appear on the website soon. The pictures aren't yet working, but I'm mostly interesting in hearing about bugs and other issues (e.g. the number of locations or tanks don't match when you follow a link).

Preserved Tanks by Country

Tank Factories and Facilities by Country

All Tank-Related Locations by Country

- All results are currently ordered by the number of locations then the number of tanks.

Of course, this new feature will naturally highlight tanks and locations that I haven't yet gotten to, which I'm well aware of, so please don't post just to tell me about missing tanks.

Thanks for that, Lesley - MaK is one of the last few German factories that need writing up. I hadn't found enough tanks confirmed built there to make it worthwhile, but if the Leopard 2 was made there then I will make a point of doing it.
