Post subject: Heavy Metal, as in Abrams MBT!

Hi Folks!

Sense there is a forum for books, thought I would post a note about a book I just finished reading yesterday.

Heavy Metal, A Tank Company's Battle to Baghdad by Capt. Jason Conroy with Ron Martz.

This book covers Charlie Company, with Task Force 1-64 of the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division and their attack north into Iraq. Charlie Company was part of both thunder runs into Baghdad.

Capt Jason Conroy was the company commander.
Ron Martz was an embedded journalist.

Lots of what we planned for, what we had to do which we didn't plan for.
Lots of things that went right along with things that didn't go so right.

This was the tank company that 'Cojone, Eh?' was a part of. A lot of details on how that tank was lost. Capt Conroy saw the hit and disagrees with the offical army position on what hit Cojone, Eh?.

During the first Thunder run into Baghadad, there is a story about an accident one of the other tanks had after Cojone, Eh? was left behind.

Anyone know how to make a 25 ton spinning top?

Charlie company was the nearest US Army unit to the Iraqi National Museum. Lots of details on what really happiend with the all the items that where taken.

I think it is was a very good read, would suggest anyone interested in mounted combat, check this book out.

After reading it, I figure the Abrams was the only vehicle for the job. If they had been using M8 AGSs, many of they would have never made it and more that one tank would have been lost to enemy fire.

There is an appendix that list all the troopers, their vehicles, their call signs and the vehicle names.

Capt Conroy's tank was named 'Courtesty of the Red, White, and Blue'.
I think I've seen a decal set somewhere with that name.

Book Report!
