M1A1 Startup Video/Audio
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

I recorded an M1A1 tank starting up. Will e-mail it to anyone interested. If you've never heard one it is quite different from the conventional style engine. The video is 12MB and the audio is 1 MB. Let me know which you want.

When I got my first experience with one at NTC in `03, I was amazed at how fast it spooled up and was ready to roll...maybe 10-15 seconds. Apart from not having to duck the blades, it was just like firing up a helicopter, only faster. Wink

A an interesting side note:

In the recently released movie, 'War of the Worlds', the alien death ray is preceeded by a very familiar 'wind up' sound. It is the start up of an Abrams turbine engine.

I have a 'wav' of the engine start up that I used as the 'windows' start up sound bit.

I love that sound....

Good idea. I'm thinking of using it for Windows Startup too. Will be especially cool at work!
