Post subject: Squadron Merger...?

I have been talking with the CO of another 92nd RAF squadron, ironic.., and we have touched on the possibility of a merger, I would apriciate feedback from anyone reading this. Tips on how to carry this out would also be helpful. This is still just a thought. Thanks.

A merge will let the squadron grow. An instant merge can turnout also in a period of vast recruitment. But we will have to draw up a program for recruitment. We will need certain requirements, evaluate the level of maturity, and most likely scheduled missions. But a whole squadron reform will occur most likely. Ranks could be changed, wings, etc. We are a close group of men though. We have been around for months, some years, and we naturally could alienate ourselves from the other new members if we are not careful. But a whole merger goes into much more needed detail. But I say it can be good for us. We would have to behave and not drive others deaf (Stallion :D) through irrevelant facts..or myths.

Exactly, that's why I still have my doubts on a merger. I really think we are fine how we are now. We really don't need a merger, except I'm not saying that I'm not for it. Would be different.

I think a merge would avoid a confusion of "wait is he from the 92 or the 92??"

Just a little advice from an old dog at doing this.....the 401RCAF have been around for 6 years now and are one of the last fully active squads from the old CFS1 day's...and why is this you ask?...because we stuck to keeping the squad small (8 to 10) and kept it in the family, meaning only people like us are members. You guy's from what I have seen and have had the pleasure of flying PF and playing COD with have the making of a great squad that will be friends for life and have alot of fun for years if you stick to doing exactly what your doing now. Trust me big squads with the exception of RAF662 don't last very long because of too many differences of opinion and other childish stuff.

Keep up the great job guy's!!!

Hitman has a huge point. We absolutely don't need the merger...we have't yet actually merged. We could just stay in touch with the other guys, but never actually do merge. Maybe it's best we just stay the way we are.

From my 7 years of SoS ~

You merge a team or bring aboard another team, you will inherit their problem's , and two CO's will never work. One CO has his branch of players and vise versa resulting in alot of heartache for everyone. Stick to your gun's fellas and grow slowly with-in your own team , SoS has always recruited by invite and kept the team small and managable and have yet to regret it. You will thanks yourselves down the line. Wink

All good points, but ever since the start of the 92nd, when Warhawk and I met in CFS3, we have always held equal positions and made decisions based on group feelings. Though we can assert our atority if need be. We have flown with and had numerous chats with the other 92nd on teamspeak. Frankly, we are looking at a squadron that is in no way established anywhere. They would really just be a bunch of new members.... Nothing final has been decided as of yet, but I think we need to make the note that they are not that established in anything. All comments are welcome.

Post subject: Re: Squadron Merger...?

I don't have as much experience as the guys above, but from my observations thats how it should be anyway. The squad C/O exists more for the benefit of communicating or dealing with folks outside the group, such as other squad C/O's etc and usually is most needed to resolve potential issues and discussions about matches, rules, behavior complaints, etc etc etc.....he takes on the "dirty work" to both protect and represent the group, and top billing on the roster is about the only payback he should expect (and hopefully isn't the driving force).

Inside the group it should be much different. Since everyone's in it for the same thing, on their own time, and volunteers so to speak as opposed to conscripts, they MUST have a say in what goes on and everyone's opinion should count equally. Official "ranks" on the roster become a bit meaningless in this respect and are really only useful for resolving any contention within the group if necessary.....someone's gotta have to step in and make a decision sometimes. But rank rarely has anything to do with having the best idea or solution, so in reality, it's all about respecting everyone equally and giving them a platform when needed...

A long time back I had a conversation with another squad C/O in which he wanted me to agree never to accept a membership application from anyone in his group should they leave his, and later want to join ours. I was pretty much surprised by this because we do not own people nor do we have the right mandate the outcome of their personal decisions by banning or blacklisting them. Looking at the big picture, a squad is pretty meaningless unless there are other squads to interact with, and so we owe it to ourselves and other squads to support and respect all individuals who comprise our entire community. Excepting, of course, any hopeless A-holes that have a track record of just wantin' to cause trouble!

Damn this turned into a sermon again and think I forgot the point!

Oh now I remember...it was....sounds like you're doing everything right and take the advice given....grow slowly and soundly, and if you keep it fun you'll have an even easier path!

I agree the RCAF has had many of chances to merge with other squads and have declined all. We recruit be invite only usually except once in awhile I open recruiting. And most decisions are made by unamimous vote by the squad and yes I get the dirty work when needed lol

Smart decision would be grow slowly maybe just take on a couple at a time until they are all switched over if they want to merge. But in my opinion merging does cause more headaches and unforseen troubles. Merging an established squad with an unestablished squad imho is gonna be headaches. and too many people joining all at once is definetly grounds for headaches and troubles. In the 6 years I been in the RCAF I doubt that we have ever had more than 2 new recruits at one time. We grew slow and it was alot more fun that way.

GEEEEEZZZZZ thanks Stoopy its contagious rofl

Just my opinion......
