Preserved Tanks in the Netherlands
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Not sure if it's been described here before, but I've just been to the Dutch historic collection of Air Defence equipment at Vredepeel in Holland. Very interesting museum with 3 PRTL/Cheetahs, some Patriot displays, lots of HAWK equipment, various Bofors, a US 90mm AD gun, 3.7 inch British AD gun and other small AD guns and a rather nicely restored M16 half track.

About 't Harde;
tThe artillerymuseum has 2 x M110, one of them a former Spanish one. The other one is NLD army. I was told the M109 and M110 from Overloon are back at the art museum. The second M110 was from the one at Overloon.

The MLRS which was at the Oirschot open day is indeed the former US Army one formely at the army museum depot. It has been modified to resemble a NLD vehicle and painted in NLD colours.

Regards,
Lesley

The former Spanish M110 is scrapped unfortunately. The former NLD M110A2 is serial FMY1392 r/n KZ-87-42

The M109 in the museum collection has serial 5619 1637 r/n KZ88-40

The MLRS is serial UAA00708, the name according to the plate inside is Carrier MLRS.

The M577 of the collection is serial C741NL, registration KZ-75-74

regards

Today a nice surprise at the engineer school at Reek. A Leopard 1V (s/n 8681, r/n KU-91-07) at the parking lot (N51 43.709 E5 42.483). It is former mobilisation complex Heesch and dropped at Reek. The people I spoke didn't know why it was there, and what the purpose was. They told me that a lowloader dropped a Cheetah SPAAG, picked it up a few hours later and dropped the Leopard 1V here instead much to the surprise of the barrack residents Smile

It has the tactical markings of 4th platoon, 3rd tank, B- Squadron, 49th Tankbattalion but has also the markings of 59th Tankbattalion

Anyway, the more Leopard 1s survive, the better!

The two Pattons are still going strong here.

Also seen were one AMX-13, one YP-408 and the an YPR-765 (s/n SJ-0167) in UN colours which striked a mine in former Yugoslovia

Pictures are not that good, I didn't have a photocamera.

Post subject: Re: Preserved Tanks in the Netherlands

hello,

just wanted to let you know that Joe DeMarco identified this tank as being a T14E1 and not an M32A1B3 :

"For the sake of uniformity, in April 1945, the USMC requested 50 Tank Recovery Vehicles based on the M4A3 with HVSS. At the time, it was not known if the standard sprocket lifting drum configuration would work with 23 inch tracks, so Baldwin engineers replaced the drum with the boom raising sheave. In any case, in the Summer of 1945, Baldwin Locomotive and International Harvester completed 80 Tank Retriever conversions based on new production M4A3(105)HVSS Shermans pulled from the line at Chrysler. These conversions featured the boom raising sheave, and were given the nomenclature "T14E1.""

A first noted for me today was a Leopard 1V at the storage area of the Artillery museum in 't Harde.

Registration is KU-94-26 with fahrgestelnummer 8674. It is located at N52 23.517 E 5 54.596.

It is painted in the colours of 43 Tkbat, A-squadron with the name Ardenner on the turret

Also noted was a ZSU-23/4 without radar disc. All Cyrillic markings on the in- and outside. Hullnumber is 902A815 which makes it a MMZ february 1969 produced vehicle

Also noted today at the 't Harde training area is former Iraqi army T-55. Unfortunately the hullnumber was not readable anymore.

The ZSU-23/4 mentioned above will go to Leeuwarden Air Force Base as monument

I think that's the radar dish for the ZSU-23-4 sitting on the ground in front of the vehicle to the left of the photo, with the fibreglass covering missing.

Cheers,

Scott
