Post subject: What scenery is best

We have tons of posts for aircraft, but I like scenery as well. What are some good meshs and scenery objects that are a must for FS9?

If you fly FS9 a lot and require accurate mesh then the best payware stuff on the market is FS Global Terrain. Here's a quote.......

FS Global Terrain Mesh provides over 12 Gigabytes of new terrain data provides up to 16 times more detail for your WHOLE Flight Simulator world!

If you are looking to make your Flight Simulator experience a more dramatic affair, then this is the only product that delivers a total world-wide upgrade! Three DVD-ROMs provide new mesh terrain data sourced directly from NASA's Space Shuttle missions.

Alternatively you can d/l mesh in sections from Simviation they have a nice coded map of the global areas you may want/need. Oh and it's free

Boo!!!!!

Search the file library at avsim.org for the California mesh, it's a 5 or 6-part download and WELL worth it. Especially for the hoplist that's on Fled's server right now. Not to brag about the home state, but that hoplist covers some of the most varied and breathtaking scenery you can find...from islands to shorelines to mountains to desert and everything in between in a short distance & time. The mesh really brings everything to life!

must admit that there are so many mesh sceneries out there, that one get's confused about wich one and also the level of detail, there are very detailled ones and less detailled ones, for me to make an end to all the confusion I bought FS Global 2005 from fsglobal2005.com

Advantage imho is that you have in one bang the whole world mesh scenery at an acceptable level installed and don't need to bother to get into sifting through all the other stuff available out there.

just my two pence in the bin

I would have to say Boo that being from the rocky mountains of British Columbia of course I will be looking for something around there......I found a set of scenerys developed by Holger Sandmann for the B.C. Rockies and they are great,,,,there is no comparison to the default scenery,,,,,,in my home town of Golden everything is perfect with the exception of the buildings of course, but even the logging clearcuts are in their place and the mountains are totally in proportion to the real thing and even the ski hill is very well done. For those who like bush flying and ripping through mountain valleys in their F-18's these are a must have set of scenerys,,,,,,These can be found in AVSIM along with many many other works by this great scenery designer, there is a bit of file manipulation to these but he explains in perfect detail on how to do this,,,,,IF I CAN DO IT,,,,ANYBODY CAN,,,,,there is no better scenery in my eyes than that of high glacier capped mountain peaks,,,if you would agree then these files are for you

Think I will start saving my pennies for some payware stuff like the FS Global, huge file though. Until then I am getting freewares suggested since my pennies take awhile to stack up with little one and my other main hobby of homebrewing!

I just get tired of some of the mundane scenery thats standard in FS9. I have airports galor and some extras but the overall scenery when flying is something to be desired, IMHO.

I think this excellent question has been addressed - righteously - now, by Ascout and his Anomaly Airways outfit.....

Check out th'new "PigSty" scenery, located on Orca's Island in the San Juan island group off of Vancouver. Airfield code KORS. Some of the most varied scenery you can get, a huge island chain right next to Vancouver, and accessible from the US or Canadian border. Some of the most breathtaking stuff especially when you add a Vancouver area terrain mesh (avsim has a freeware download, and it's not that huge or complex like the Cali mesh).

Most if not all of my flights now either begin or end there. Lots of variety and some interesting weather also, and heck man, its the Pig Sty! Mr. Green

Vancouver-Victoria is a cool flight in a seaplane...I've actually done it in real-life in a DeHav Otter...the old kind with a Wasp Minor engine and had the front seat, too! You can stop over at the Pig Sty for some "companionship" if the damp air gets to ya'.

And Stoopy...you are "all clear" to use the mesh if ya' want (why you asked, I'll never know! Laughing )
