interesting afghan scrap heap...
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

You need to see it full-size to appreciate some of the vehicles there...

I think that may not be a true DUKW It appears to have a tailgate ( The DUKW didn't) But something I read years ago said the Soviets made a DUKW clone that improved on the design by adding a tailgate to allow easier unloading

right. It's called a ZiS-485 (BAV).

"Similar in size to the DUKW, which it resembles, the BAV has a rear loading ramp by which vehicles can be driven right aboard, rather than being loaded over the side by crane." (Wikipedia)

This is a synthesis of what we know about pre-1945 vehicles in Afghanistan :

-3 Renault FT tanks went abroad (2 were recovered from a dump)
-1 Renault FT is still displayed at the entrance of a fort
-the Disston tractor tank is in a dump
-the 2 Armored Carriers, Wheeled, Indian Pattern, Mk IV are in a dump too
-the SU-76 is "somewhere" in Afghanistan (but apparently not in a dump)

what else?

-the 2 Armored Carriers, Wheeled, Indian Pattern, Mk IV are in a dump too
-the SU-76 is "somewhere" in Afghanistan (but apparently not in a dump)

there where also

I am almost sure I have an image of one of them near some monument... I'll have to take a look through my image bank and check.

Google Earth shows about a square mile of old russian armor near Kabul. 34.563671 69.313205 is the NorthWest corner of the lot.
