M47 info wanted...
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

I just recieved this e-mail in my AKO account from someone who must have seen one of my old posts on this DG. Does anyone know where this information might be obtained? Here is the message; Re: Barstow M47........ *PIC*

SFC Button:
We are looking for design spec info on the M47 Patton lifting rings. Do you know where such data could be obtained?
Thanks,

I would suggest that they try to contact the Patton Museum at Ft. Knox. Or possible send someone there. Either way, maybe someone could check Mr. Hunnicutt's original notes for that info.

Failing that, I would guess one could take the combat loaded weight of a M47, divide by four, add 10% for safety. That should put them somewere in the ball park.

From "The World's Armoured Fighting Vehicles" by Dr. F.M.Von Senger Und Etterlin, translated and edited by R.M. Ogorkiewicz, copywrite 1962, the M47 is listed at 44 Laden Tons.

Does "Laden" mean Combat loaded?

I think I would allow more than 10% for safety. I'll bet the margin of safety is 25-50%. But I have no actual data to base that on.
