Favorite Science Fiction AFVs
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

By popular demand - okay me & Don, but aint that popular enough?

So post pics of your favorite SF AFVs... I would say it doesnt have to just be SF AFVs from movies & TVs, but you should at least have some pic. AFVs "described" from books (ie without pics) can get "honorable mention" I suppose...

Also, to keep this from getting out of hand, I'd restrict this to wheeled, tracked & possibly hovercraft AFVs - ie no walkers, no "mecha" (even if I am a fan of those).

To start off, here's the classic - the APC from Aliens - based on an airport tug.

BTW, this thing apparently had horrible right-side vision for the driver...

Just slightly more obscure, the "M21 Anaconda" MBT from the Japanese anime "Megazone 23."

Bandai's Batman Begins "Tumbler" Batmobile. Great kit, and it comes in black! I count it as an AFV since Morgan Freeman's character describes it as being built for the military for bridging operations.

Driving on rooftops is a great benefit to this AFV.

Yeah, my friends and I were rather perplexed by the "bridging" concept for the "Tumbler" vehicle:

"She was built as a bridging vehicle. During combat, two of these would jump over a river, towing cables... We never could get
the damn bridge to work..."

I wonder why...

For me, still the ultimate sci-fi armour. I fell in love with them when they first trundled across the screen in 1980:

From a literary standpoint, I also like the lizard tanks in Harry Turtledove's WorldWar series. I'd like to scratchbuild a model of one of them sometime.

Cheers,

Scott TAYLOR ....GOOD CALL !!

I really liked that series and always wondered if the mechanics of the WW2 and the modern stuff made sense. I mean did'nt he basically propose that a sabot round from a Tiger could penetrate the lizards armor?

Kinda like a Tiger of that era taking out a M1!!

Well, yes, I too question the story behind the developement. But it is a really cool Batmobile and includes an optional pseudo-desert camouflage scheme as an option.
