Post subject: WW I German gun on NBC News?

I was just watching the news and the reporter was speaking from Jackson MS, I would guess the capitol or the legislature building. In the background one could clearly see what appears to be a German WWI gun on the lawn.

. . .

A little searching and I see it is the current capitol, and there are two of them.

Looks like a 15 cm sFH 13:

They have two (2) 15cm sFH 13 L/17 numbers 973 and 2837 both at 32° 18.213'N 90° 10.928'W, very close together, either side of steps.

Ah - I was thrown by the Wikipedia photo. The tube on that one is out of battery.

But hey, I feel good about IDing it as German!

The tube is not out of battery. It is a 15cm sFH 1913 (In the Wikipedia article). That is the correct tube length.

The 15cm lg,sFH 1913 has the long barrel. It is the 15cm lg.sFH 13 in Jackson, MS not the 15cm sFH 13.

You can see the differences on my German Foot Artillery identification web pages:

lovettartillery.com/Ge...wings.html

lovettartillery.com/MA...Detail.htm

lovettartillery.com/MA...etail.html

I also own examples of both types shown on these pages:

lovettartillery.com/15..._1913.html

lovettartillery.com/15...13_02.html

Hope this helps

R/
