CFS2 is still one of my favorites although I don't get much 'stick time' with it. Great summary Aris..:wink:

CFS1 though dated is still the most fun combat flight sim ever.
Despite M$ threatening to remove it from the Zone last January, it's still there.
Despite them hiding the access page, we are still getting new players (45th_Hank found us last week and joined 45th a few days later).
I've been playing CFS1 since August 2001 and there are folks who still haven't had enough of it since December 1998.
I've tried CFS2, CFS3, and the IL2 series and have always come back to CFS1.

If you're after reality, CFS2 looks better than CFS1. CFS3 has better flight models and looks better. IL2 is better still.

But, if you're after fun, get CFS1.

Welcome to the wonderfull world of online flight simming!

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I think I saw the dreaded "satellite" word up there. I don't know anyone who is flying online with a satellite connection, for this reason:

Satellite Internet also has a high latency problem caused by the signal having to travel 22,000 miles (35,000 km) out into space to the satellite and back to Earth again. The signal delay can be as much as 500 milliseconds to 900 milliseconds, which makes this service unsuitable for applications such as multiplayer Internet gaming or live interactive access to a distant computer, but tolerable for just basic email access and web browsing.

There is no simple way to get around this problem. The delay is primarily due to the speed of light being only 186,000 miles per second (300,000 km/second). Even if all other signalling delays could be eliminated it still takes the electromagnetic wave 233 milliseconds to travel from ground to the satellite and back to the ground, a total of 44,000 miles (70,000 km) to travel from you to the satellite company.


Latency will kill the online experience. Sad

Well I can always practice when I am on the rigs and when I get home I can get online with my DSL connection and light up the skies!

Who knows, maybe there is a slower dark as opposed to a faster light! Rolling Eyes

Well I can always practice when I am on the rigs and when I get home I can get online with my DSL connection and light up the skies!


There's actually a lot of sense to that for the air combat stuff! The deadliest online pilots I know all obviously spent a LOT of time in solo mode working on the finer points of deflection shooting and learning the exact convergence point of their planes' guns. That stuff pays HUGE dividends when you enter a room full of targe....err.......pilots!
