Post subject: Network Card?

Just got back from Atlanta seeing my grand babies and went to my puter to check my e-mail. Everything worked fine. Turned off puter and went to eat then a little TV and decided I wanted to play some JO. Booted up and I get this error message in my tray that a network cable is unplugged. I check cables and all was fine. Put a new cable in it's place still no good. Reset modem and router...no good. Switched to 2nd network slot and no good. No light on either network slot in back of puter. Deleted both cards and Windows found both and reinstalled them but no good. Did a restore to last week and got a message from PC Tools Firewall Plus that an external source had messed with some files and I should run my anti-virus proogy. Did that and AVG found nothing. AVG did update when I checked my email so that should have been good. There were just a few jokes from my Dad so I didn't open anything when I checked my mail earlier. Both network slots are on my mother board. MB is MSI K9N Diamond..... www.msicomputer.com/pr...d&class=mb
I have been noticing lately that when surfing my internet seemed to stop working for a few seconds to as long as 30 seconds for the last 2 or 3 weeks. I thought maybe it was my cable company because they are updating lines around here. I am on my laptop here which is plugged into the same port as my main desktop puter and have not noticed any delays or interruptions. My other 2 desktops seems to work fine. This leads me to believe that my network cards have both gone bad. But before installing a new one I thought I might ask if anyone might have a solution. Thanks!

Thnx Rixter. I know they are cheap but was just wondering if mine really went south or maybe a virus got them. I appreciate the offer but I think I can afford a new card....lol.

It was the power supply? I wouldn't have figured that, but I'm glad you got it sorted out... Wink

Maybe you can post how you came to the conclusion it was the power supply so others will know if it happens to them ?

Just a thought

yup power supply figures . i had same prob about 5 months ago, after constant reinstalling and messing my isp told me it was power supply, they sent new power supply and it was instantly fixed like homeys. also beware of dumping monitors with seperate psu units as this can also be the case with those,

From 20 years of supporting networked workstations "When nothing else makes sense suspect the power" either the power supply or incoming power.

When I was supporting the first generation of Xerox Word processors it was drilled into us that any time you actually had to troubleshoot you should start at the wall outlet and work towards the daisy wheel. (No CRT's back then :-))

Well I installed a new network card and while in the case I cleaned all the dust and varmits out...lol and put er all back together and plugged er in and no power???????. Got the meter out and checked most everthing and had power going into psu but none com'n out. Decided to try a new psu and when I plugged it all back in the network card started working again. Not real sure why but I'm not arguing with the thing as ya'll know Murphy does reside in my home....lol. Best to leave things alone.
