Freight and Passenger Transport

Event begins immediately following the Sunday Flight.  This flight will be run a second time on June 7th at 1400 ET (US)  1900 GMT

First of all, let’s cover the required files list for this flight.  These files are mandatory – you must have them installed on your system.

·        The aircraft will be the Milton Shupe Beech D18 Amphibian available in the CC Downloads section.

·        The scenery is the awesome Glacier Bay package available on Flightsim.com and Avsim.   The file names to search for are:   glbayv2a.zip  and  glbayv2b.zip.  These are large downloads – 56 megs and 85 megs respectively, but ‘you get what you pay for’  in terms of file size.  This package covers a large area in the northern panhandle of Alaska and includes accurate mesh, shorelines, landclass, airports and a whole lot of beautiful eye candy.

·        The scenery files included in this package:  move or copy the Com Central Bush Flights folder to your fs9\addon scenery folder. This adds three fictitious camps to the Glacier Bay scenery. If you haven’t already installed Com Central Bush Flights scenery from previous flights, then be sure to go into your Scenery Library and activate this scenery.

·        Please read and follow all of the instructions in the Com Central Bush Flying Flights – More Required Files and Instructions  forum thread.

  • Flight Simulator Files folder   Contains GPS flight plan and saved flight to begin this adventure. Three files in this folder are: CCB_008 VFR Taku Lodge to Carcross Seaplane.PLN , CCB_008, and CCB_008.wx.  Move or copy this folder to your  My Documents folder and overwrite when prompted..
  • CCB_008-Sectional.jpg    A partial sectional chart roughly describing our route.

The Adventure

Our mission this week is simple.  We’ll load up our D18’s with freight and passengers and deliver them to three locations north of Taku Lodge.  The landings are pretty easy, but the weather isn’t the greatest.  Still, the scenery is gorgeous on this route.

The Flight

Here’s an overview of our approximate flight path for today:

Cruise Altitude:  As required

Cruise Speed:   158 kias

Power Settings:   28”hg Manifold Pressure @ 2000 rpm

TKL Taku Lodge to CAD6 Atlin Seaplane - Flight Time about 35 minutes

Load your aircraft with freight and passengers and taxi out into the channel.  Take off into the wind and pick up the GPS track. Your initial cruise altitude is 1000’, which you can maintain until Fix15.  At that point climb to 1500’ to avoid terrain. At Fix19 climb again to 2000’ and at Fix 22 you’ll need to climb one last time on this leg to 3200’msl.  Land into the wind and taxi to the docks shown below to unload.

TKL  Elevation 0’ msl Water

CAD6 Atlin Seaplane  Elevation 2188’ msl  Water

CAD6 Atlin Seaplane to Little Teslin Lake Camp - Flight Time about 30 minutes

Taxi out into the lake and take off into the wind.  Climb to 3200’and at Fix33 increase your altitude to 3600’ for the remainder of this leg.  The GPS track takes you straight in at Little Teslin Lake.  Land and taxi to the camp to unload.  There’s not a lot of room on the shore, so just beach your aircraft.

Fix43 Little Teslin Lake Camp Elevation 2581’ msl  Water

Little Teslin Lake Camp to CEB7 Carcross Seaplane - Flight Time about 20 minutes

The lake is plenty long, so you’ll be able to turn around and depart straight down the course line here.  Climb to 3600’ to clear terrain on this leg. There’s lots of room at Carcross, so land straight in – no need to turn into the wind.  Taxi to the dock as indicated below and unload the last of your freight and passengers.

That’s it!  I hope you enjoyed the flight, and I hope to see you again in future Com Central Bush Flight adventures!
