What is the small vehicle behind the Japanese tank (Ha Go?) and in front of the PzIII in the second picture?

In #5 it's amazing how far away some of the turrets landed. At least that is what I think those objects are in the background.

Thanks to all for your replies. It's easy to see the importance of firepower, armor and mobility, but now I have a greater appreciation for the importance of reliability and maintenance support.
